Yoon Kyun-Sang’s Scandal
Yoon Kyun-Sang has been facing criticism for buying an experimental cat breed called Scottish Kilt. He apologized to the public for the controversy he caused from his fourth and latest pet cat Somyi.
On February 21, the actor shared a photo of Somyi with the caption, “Somyi is a Scottish Kilt. Scottish Kilt is a problematic breed that was developed as a result of human greed. It could be described as mutation breeding. Most of these breeds have a genetic disorder and are often sick. They are usually weaker than normal cats.”
He continued, “Somyi had a skin disease and as you can see in the photo, she has severe malocclusion. Many people say we should adopt [these breeds] instead of purchasing them, but I had no plans to [get another pet]. However, she’s a baby that already entered the world, and when I saw how sick she was, I ultimately took her home.”
Upon reading his post, many netizens expressed concern, saying that it would create a demand for experimental breeds. Because Yoon Kyun Sang is a public figure, some are worried that his post will encourage people to buy these breeds at pet shops.
Previously, netizens flooded the actor’s Instagram with hate comments, accusing him of “buying an experimental breed from a pet shop.” While Yoon Kyun Sang explained that he had purchased Somyi even knowing that the purchase of the breed is immoral because he could not ignore the sick cat. Netizens did not let up their malicious accusations toward him.
As a result, Yoon Kyun Sang posted a second, lengthy letter of apology, this time accompanied by a photo of his cat Ddomi.
I know what the problem is. I wrote a post as you wanted. Then, you said that was not right so I deleted it all, including the photos. I realize that I am a public figure. I apologize for forgetting that for a moment. I know what the problem was. I will be more aware of it now.
I plead you, this is my Instagram. Most people who visit here and leave comments are probably those who are fond of me, are interested in me, are curious about me, or are my fans. Those people are not just saying “It’s okay” because they do not know anything. They are leaving those words of comfort in the case that I may be having a difficult time. They are only thinking of this undeserving person. It’s not that I did not do wrong; it’s that I admit I was wrong. I am being punished for being wrong and am reflecting on my actions, and those people are just comforting me beside me, saying it’s okay and not to make the same mistake next time. It is not that they’re leaving comments without any thoughts. I have received tens of hundreds of comments and messages from punitive commenters. I hear you.
So, please, stop here.”
