After his military exemption, Yoo Ah-in continues his activities as a celebrity. In September 2018, the actor has been chosen as the global image spokesperson of DIESELX, a fashion brand. Yoo Ah-in was picked because of his values and consciousness regarding social issues, which goes in line with the brand’s vision of race, gender, politics, environment, digital technology, and many more. Yoo Ah-in revealed that he was honored, “I hope more fashion brands, like Diesel, will pay more attention to the society we live in now and speak up for it.”
In mid-October 2018, the teaser of Yoo Ah-in’s latest movie Sovereign Default was released. Otherwise known as National Day of Bankruptcy, the film was shot for three months, from December 2017 until March 2018, and features Yoo Ah-in along with actress Kim Hye-soo and actor Heo Jin-ho. Moreover, the film is slotted to be screened at the 71st Cannes International Film Festival.
The plotline tells the story of South Korea’s situation during the 1997 event of the economic crisis. In the film, Yoo Ah-in plays Yoon Jung-hak, an investor who is not afraid of the crisis as he believes the situation will be over in no time. Moreover, Yoon Jung-hak reckons that such event is a lifetime opportunity that should not be missed, though, at a later stage of the story, he becomes desperate as the crisis becomes more apparent.
