Yoo Ah-in’s Gay Rumor
Rather than a dating rumor with a female celebrity, Yoo Ah-in was often rumored to be gay, since in the past, there were photos of him hanging out in a gay bar. In an interview with media outlet Cine21, Yoo Ah-in clarified the rumor, saying that it was untrue, “I wanted to make them ashamed of themselves. I was hurt and frustrated because I had become a toy for everyone. I could have just deleted the photo to stop the rumors if I did not want them to spread, but I wanted them to look back on this after some time had passed and feel ashamed of themselves.”
After the interview with Cine21, the speculation about Yoo Ah-in’s sexuality was discussed in Channel A’s show Heard It Through the Grapevine. The show is hosted by the first openly gay TV personality Hong Suk-chun. He said that by such logic (Yoo Ah-in taking a picture in a gay bar), everyone who comes to a gay bar must be gay, inducing that the bar is not exclusive for a community. Moreover, actor Gong Hyung-jin who was a guest at the show added that Yoo Ah-in is a bold person so if he was really gay, he would have come out sooner without any need to clarify the rumor.
Yoo Ah-in’s Cafe and Restaurant
Besides being a celebrity, Yoo Ah-in is known for his interest in art. In 2014, the actor became the creative director of Studio Concrete and made the organization with his friends, such as Cha Hae-young, artist Kwon Chul-hwa, and Kwon Ba-da, and director of photography Kim Jae-hoon. The place, which features a gallery, cafe, and workshop, is located at Hannam-dong and involves in a range of creative projects, including planning exhibitions and advertisements, graphic design, product design, and art collaborations.
In 2015, Yoo Ah-in was interviewed by magazine Grazia about the background of the founding of the studio, “The crew members are all my friends, but I am moved by their art pieces and their human nature. I wanted to get these treasure-like friends to become known to the rest of the world. The people around me believe that art is discovering something and putting a new frame on top of it. Whether buying a favorite postcard and putting it on the bedside or tearing the favorite pages off the magazine and posting them on the desk. More than wanting to sell something particular, I want to participate in that action. Our biggest homework and goal is to allow people to easily understand the concept of art.” The same year, Yoo Ah-in also launched his mushroom-based healthy restaurant “TMI: Too Much Information” in Itaewon.
