Get to Know Yi-Xing or Lay, Ex-Member of EXO
Zhang Yixing was born on October 7th, 1991, he is better known as Lay Zhang or Lay (Hangeul: 레이). He is a Chinese singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. In 2012 he debuted as a member of the K-Pop boy group EXO and became a part of the Chinese sub-group EXO-M under SM Entertainment. He initially became popular after joining the Chinese TV talent show Star Academy in 2005. Besides his musical career, he is also popular as an actor as he has played a role in several dramas and movies, such as Ex-Files 2 (2015), The Mystic Nine (2016), Kung Fu Yoga (2017), and The Island (2018).

Give Me A Chance
This song was released on October 5th, 2018, by SM Entertainment and Zhang Yixing Studio. “Give Me A Chance” is a single recorded by Lay from his solo album Namanana. The lyrics and composing were conducted by Bazzi together with Lay. This song is about having a trap beat over a wonderful melody with lyrics about a former lover. On October 7th, the music video was officially released.
In the music video, we can see Lay with his superb dancing moves along with backup dancers in an industrial setting and on a rooftop.
Namanana is his second studio album that was also written by him. The song of the same title was released on October 19th, 2018, by SM Entertainment. The album contains 22 tracks in total, 11 of which are in Chinese with English counterparts for each, including the two singles “Give Me a Chance” and “Namanana.” The album also marks his debut in the US under the name Lay Zhang. On October 18th, the music video teaser for “Namanana” was released and the next day the music video itself.

This song, “Honey,” is the third extended play by Lay. On June 14th, 2019, this song was released digitally. “Honey” also comes in both an English and a Chinese version.
On April 30th, Lay made a teaser about the artwork of “Honey” on Instagram. Then on May 20th, Lay also released a teaser of the “Honey” music video through his social media accounts. This song has R&B beats and shows his dancing skills, not complicated but flowing like water following the beat.
“Sheep” is part of the first studio album by Chinese singer Lay Zhang. This song was released on October 7th, 2017, in South Korea and China, by SM Entertainment. The album features ten tracks in total, including the two singles “I Need U” and “Sheep.” On September 21st, Lay and S.M. Entertainment launched teaser images for the album on different social media platforms.
The video of the song includes scenes of him dancing in several different settings, including a sauna, a broken building, and other public places. Surely we can see his brilliant dancing.
On October 7th, Lay performed a flash mob of “Sheep” in Sanlitun, Beijing. On October 21st, Lay launched the first stop of his “Lay 02 Sheep Signing Promo” at Hongqiao Art Centre, Shanghai. On December 31st, Lay performed “Sheep,” “Boss,” and “Mask” on Hunan TV’s Year-End Concert.
This song is meant as a Winter Special Gift and is part of the special winter album and second extended play. “Goodbye Christmas” was released on December 22nd, 2017, in China by Tencent on the label’s music apps, QQ Music, Kugou, and Kuwo. The EP features six tracks in total, including the single “Goodbye Christmas.” The album was released in South Korea the next day on December 23rd, 2017.
This song, which is the leading song of the album, has a melancholic vibe to it with a piano background sound and shows the smooth and slow voice of Lay.
Let’s Shut Up & Dance
“Let’s Shut Up & Dance” is a collaboration single between Jason Derulo, Lay, and NCT 127. This song was released on February 22nd, 2019. The song is a Michael Jackson tribute song sung by Jason Derulo, Lay Zhang from the group EXO, and NCT 127. Interestingly, in the beginning, it was announced that Justin Bieber will be featured in the song but was later replaced by Jason Derulo when it was released.
The song has a nice beat and shows Lay, Jason Derulo, and NCT 127 dancing in their own different styles in various places without dancing together. Their combination is superb!
Recently, in 2019, on his Instagram, with the account name @zyxzjs, Lay revealed his supporting statement for Hong Kong residents for the democracy choice.
He also uploaded photos of his vacation on the mountain on his Instagram account.
During his debut, American radio hosts of KISS FM got criticized for the disrespectful remarks about Lay and NCT 127. The hosts misheard NCT 127 and Lay as BTS and repeatedly called them by the wrong group name throughout the song. They said, “So it was just some random group of Asian guys dancing? We just got excited about nothing.” This American radio, KISS FM has not provided an official statement yet, but the issue will be brought up in an upcoming broadcast, according to a source who is a fan that has reached out to the radio station.
