Weeekly’s Jiyoon’s Pre-Debut
We have seen the profile of Jiyoon. We also know some more interesting facts about her. After seeing all of that, you probably wonder how a girl who was born in Bundang-gu could come to Seoul and become an idol? Every idol has a different story when they were still young. Some idols accidentally become an idol, and some idols have to train for almost half of their life before debuting. But, what story led to Jiyoon becoming an idol?
Let’s get started from the beginning. We’ll see how the little Jiyoon from Bundang-gu became the Shin Jiyoon from Weeekly that we know now.
Jiyoon or Shin Jiyoon was born in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. She was born on March 2, 2002. Jiyoon is the youngest child in her family. She lived and spent her childhood life in Bundang-gu along with her parents and an older sister. Jiyoon also went to schools in her hometown until she graduated from high school.
Jiyoon became a trainee when she was still in high school. She was accepted into a famous K-pop agency in 2017. Not a long time after that, in October 2017, she joined a survival show called Mixnine along with other trainees from her company, FAVE Entertainment.
Mixnine is a survival show which aired on JTBC. It’s a show that had Yang Hyunsuk from YG Entertainment searching for talent in other K-pop companies. It included almost 200 contestants from different agencies around South Korea. Shin Jiyoon was one of them.
However, Jiyoon was eliminated in an early-round and couldn’t finish the show. But still, the experiences she gained from Mixnine remain in her and made her skills even greater.
In 2018, Jiyoon was selected to be one of the members of FAVEGIRLS which included female trainees of Fave Entertainment, the subsidiary company of LOEN Entertainment. However, it didn’t last that long because, in 2019, Jiyoon moved to a new company.
Jiyoon then joined Play M Entertainment. Actually, Play M Entertainment is a merger of Plan A Entertainment and Fave Entertainment, her previous company. So, even though the project that she almost debuted in was delayed, she still hoped to debut in another girl group sooner or later.
Weeekly’s Jiyoon’s Debut
We have seen how complicated the journey of Shin Jiyoon was before she became a member of Weeekly. She joined a K-pop agency when she was 16 years old in Korean age or 15 years old in the international age. She also joined a contest called Mixnine which made her train with over 100 trainees from various companies. Then, she almost debuted in the FAVEGIRLS project group.
But, that was all just the beginning to make her even better as a musician. Jiyoon may have encountered some problems at first, but she was able to gain more strength and improve her skills in singing, dancing, and even composing songs.
In May 2020, Jiyoon’s dream finally came true. After all the hard work, she would be debuting in a new girl group of Play M Entertainment. As you may or may not already know, Play M Entertainment is the agency that debuted and also homes some K-pop groups such as APINK, Victon, etc. And, this new girl group would be a new girl group after APINK’s debut in 2011.
The new girl group from Play M Entertainment is called Weeekly. Just like the name, the group consists of 7 beautiful and talented members. Uniquely, the members have their own colors and days they represent.
