They are a group that consists of 10 talented and gorgeous members. They are Jinhoo, Kuhn, Kogyeol, Jinhyuk, Bitto, Wooseok, Sunyoul, Gyujin, Hwanhee, and Xiao. UP10TION made their debut in September 2015. Two of the members have gained a lot of popularity since joining the Produce x 101 survival program.

And why did he decide to use a stage name instead of his real name? Well, come to think of it, what made him want to be an idol in the first place? He must have had a reason, right?

Kogyeol, as you may know from his profile, was known for his real name Go Minsoo. His name Min means nimble and Soo means excellent. So it means a quick and excellent person. That’s why even the members agree that Kogyeol or Go Minsoo is a quite fast player in basketball.
Kogyeol was born and raised in Bocheon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. He was born on May 19th, 1996. Kogyeol spent his childhood and his teenage life there, he lived with his parents and an older sister.
As a child, Kogyeol had a lot of dreams. He changed his dreams one too many times. When he was a little boy, he had a dream to be a forklift driver. Kogyeol told his mom that he wanted to have a license for a forklift. However, it was just a childhood dream after all. In middle school, Kogyeol changed his dream again.
Kogyeol as a teenager wanted to be a businessman. Since he was good at playing basketball back then, he also wanted to be a basketball player. Kogyeol probably knew that he was handsome and tall, so, he wanted to be a model too.
When Kogyeol entered high school, he finally realized what he truly wanted. Kogyeol wanted to be a singer. He told his mom about it. But his mom doubted him and said that kids like Kogyeol seem like the ones who like to hang out in Gangnam. As you may know, Gangnam is one of the high-class and popular districts in Seoul.
Kogyeol wanted to change his mom’s mind. So, he enrolled in a dance academy and learned a lot of things about singing and dancing. While he was attending that academy, he got cast by a K-pop agency. It was the K-pop agency that later debuted him as an idol, TOP Media.
After Kogyeol passed the audition, he moved to Seoul. Luckily he had graduated from high school too. So, Kogyeol went through a hard life of being a trainee in TOP Media. He also became a back dancer for some artists in TOP Media such as Teen Top.
UP10TION’s Kogyeol’s Debut
Being a trainee was hard, even Kogyeol was close to giving up. But he remembered his mom and his family who always rooted for him. Kogyeol tried to endure all the pains of spending almost 24 hours a day training. Then finally, Kogyeol and other UP10TION members got the chance to debut.
TOP Media released an announcement that they would be debuting their new boy group. The group’s name is UP10TION. It has 10 members, just like the number 10 in the group’s name. The members are Jinhoo, Kuhn, Kogyeol, Wei, Bitto, Wooshin, Sunyoul, Gyujin, Hwanhee, and Xiao.
Jinhyuk and Wooseok who had joined Produce x 101 back in 2019 were known as Wei and Wooshin.
While Go Minsoo, or the boy that we read the story about in the previous sections, used a stage name, Kogyeol. The name Kogyeol means noble. It means that he is one who is straightforward and an honest person. Just like how Go Minsoo is.
UP10TION released their first single titled “So, Dangerous”. They held a showcase on September 9th, 2015, and performed their songs for the first time. Let’s check out the debut song of UP10TION by seeing their music video!

It’s so good to see Kogyeol finally debuted after the hard times that he went through while being a trainee. Kogyeol said that his mom was so proud of him, knowing that her son is finally debuting. The relatives and neighbors who always asked Kogyeol’s mom when will he debut also got excited to see his debut. When he was on TV, his mom told everyone not to change the channel.
The reaction from his family was really heartwarming. No wonder Kogyeol always continues to work hard. He always remembers his mom and other family members who supported him all along. That’s why even after his debut day has passed for over 5 years, he tries to be as humble as a rookie.
