Jessica Hyun-ju Ho or, as she’s better known, Jessi, was born on December 17, 1988, in New York, New York. Jessi’s a Korean-American rapper and songwriter. Although she was born in the US, she moved to South Korea when she was 15.
In 2005, Jessi released her single album “Get Up”, and performed it on the television show Music Bank. She took a break from music after she released her second single album, entitled “The Rebirth”, in 2009, and was on hiatus for about five years. After that, she made a comeback in music, returning as part of the hip-hop trio Lucky J, with J’Kyun as a rapper and J-Yo as a vocalist. The trio debuted with song ‘Can You Hear Me’.
In 2015, Jessi was a contestant on the first season of Unpretty Rapstar, and took second place. Because she placed so highly on the show, she was given the chance to be featured in JYP’s single “Who’s Your Mama”, which was released in April of 2015, along with its music video. Jessi released a solo rap single on September 15, 2015, with the song “Ssenunni”. After she won on Unpretty Rapstar, she appeared in several episodes and became a mentor on Unpretty Rapstar 2. She released her first mini-album, which was called “Un2verse” in July, 2017. The following year, she starred on Yo! MTV Raps, which aired on MTV Asia on July 6, 2018, and the newest single she released last year is “Down”.
Another result of her appearance on the show is that she was invited to make guest appearances on various variety shows, including Running Man.
Jessi’s Plastic Surgery
Even though it’s a little bit of a taboo subject among most celebrities, Jessi isn’t afraid to admit she had plastic surgery. She opened up about the procedures she’s had done when she was on the television show ‘Unnie’s Slamdunk’ on June 3, 2016.
Her courage in opening up about it is commendable, because so many artists don’t want to admit that they’ve had plastic surgery, for fear of comments from the public. Although plastic surgery is actually pretty common in Korea, many people don’t want to admit it. During the conversation, the person on the show asked Jessi why she could make a strange noise from her nose when she was breathing fast, and the performer admitted it was because she’d had surgery on her nose.
On the program ‘MBC Radio Star‘, she also said that she had undergone plastic surgery on her eyelids. When she first saw the results of the operations, she thought that her nose looked like Pinocchio’s, and her face looked like a monster’s.
Even though she looked beautiful even before the surgery, according to her, it’s not only an entertainer’s skill that must be shown off, but also their appearance.
