In this year, TWICE made history as the first female K-Pop act to hold a Japanese dome tour, named TWICE Dome Tour 2019 #Dreamday. The tour garnered a total audience of 220,000 during five shows in Osaka, Tokyo, and Nagoya, and was held in March and April 2019. All 220,000 tickets were sold out within a minute after the ticket sales commenced.
And then, on April 22nd, 2019, they released their seventh EP Fancy You, with the lead track “Fancy.” Then, on July 17th, 2019, JYP Entertainment announced the addition of a Japanese leg after reaching tens of thousands of fans on Southeast Asia and North America legs of the World Tour Twicelights. They would stage twelve concerts in seven Japanese cities from October to February 2020.
For the year’s closing, TWICE released their eighth EP, Feel Special on September 23rd, 2019, along with the music video for the lead single of the same title produced by Park Jin-young. The lead single scored the group’s second number 1 on the Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales which previously hit the top spot in 2017 with “Likey.”
“Fancy” is the Music Video for TWICE’s comeback that garnered over 42.1 million views in a single day, also reached the seventh position on the list of YouTube’s biggest debuts during the first 24 hours.
According to SOOMPI, with composition and lyrics by Black Eyed Pilseung and Jeon Goon, “FANCY” is a pop dance track that expresses a bold confession towards a crush. The release of Fancy You made Twice the best-selling Korean girl group of all time with a total of 3,750,000 copies sold from their twelve Korean releases, surpassing the twenty-year-old record of S.E.S.
Once again, TWICE broke their own record with this Music Video. Just under 29 days since its release on April 22nd, 2019, the girl group’s Music Video for “FANCY” surpassed 100 million views.
“Feel Special” is another 2019 TWICE comeback song that broke their own record.
According to SOOMPI, Park Jin Young penned lyrics and co-composed “Feel Special” with Ollipop and Hayley Aitken. Park Jin Young was inspired to write the lyrics after having a conversation with the TWICE members, where they shared the emotions they felt during the four years since their debut.
The lyrics describe someone who is like the light at the end of a dark tunnel and convey words of comfort for people who feel insignificant and hopeless.
In this EP, while Mina took part in the album and music video production, she will not be participating in other promotional activities for the album due to her anxiety disorder diagnosis.
It took only 21 days, 6 hours, and 30 minutes for “Feel Special” to reach the milestone. The music video was released on September 23rd, 2019, and it surpassed the 100 million view mark by October 15th, 2019.
