TWICE’s Jeongyeon Has a Neck Injury!
On June 1, 2020, TWICE released “MORE & MORE” and promoted their new single on various music shows in Korea. At that time, ONCE (TWICE’s fans) were curious about Jeongyeon’s focus fancam not being uploaded by SBS or Mnet. Then, on June 8, 2020, Jeongyeon did a live broadcast on V-Live, and suddenly a fan asked about the bandage on her neck.
TWICE’s Jeongyeon who has Gong Seung-yeon as her sister explained about her condition and the fancam at that time. She really intended to explain what happened to her because she hates to make her fans worry. Jeongyeon feels pain and numbness around her ears, and it happened while filming “More & More.”
After that, Jeongyeon went to the hospital and was checked by a specialist. It turns out she was diagnosed with a herniated disc in her neck. Jeongyeon underwent incentive treatments and it makes her unable to practice at all.
Through the broadcast, she said:
“I really hate the thought of showing ONCE an imperfect performance. So, after I practiced with the company, we asked the company to understand and talk to them [the TV networks] about not filming me for a fancam.” So, this is her explanation about her non-existent focus fancam.
JYP Entertainment Announced TWICE’s Jeongyeon’s Injury and Hiatus
Despite suffering a neck injury, Jeongyeon isn’t absent and still performed at their online concert Beyond Live TWICE titled World in a Day. This was announced by JYP Entertainment in a statement on August 7, 2020:
“Regarding the online concert, Beyond Live TWICE: World in a Day, Jeongyeon will appear by sitting on a chair because of her injury.”
On October 26, 2020, TWICE released their 2nd album Eyes Wide Open. But, a week before that, JYP Entertainment released a statement about Jeongyeon. They announced that she will not participate in the album promotion. Apart from the injury, she’s also was reported to have an anxiety disorder. All of TWICE’s members and the agency agreed and asked Jeongyeon to focus on her treatment.
TWICE’s Jeongyeon Talks About Her Condition
After a few months of rest, Jeongyeon finally participated during the promotion of “Alcohol Free” in June 2021. Commonly, they do promotions on various TV networks such as SBS. On June 13, 2021, TWICE appeared in Inkigayo. Throughout the appearance, ONCE noticed Jeongyeon wincing in pain. After the song was over, Jeongyeon wasn’t seen at the interview session with TWICE. This made her fans worry because she had suffered an injury to her neck. She didn’t look well at all.

Currently, Jeongyeon is running her individual activities such as a photoshoot for the Esquire magazine July edition. Based on her interview with Esquire magazine, Jeongyeon revealed her new hobby is camping, and she has been camping with Jihyo’s family.
Jeongyeon also talked about her condition and said that it is getting better. She also said thank you to her fans who had been waiting for her.
“Thank you so much for waiting for me. I feel better and will be fine. I hope you will look forward to my future activities. Thank you for working so hard without losing your first aim. Thank you so much for always supporting each other. I love you.”
TWICE’s Jeongyeon on Hiatus Due to a Health Issue
In 2020, Jeongyeon decided to take a hiatus from her activities with TWICE. In August 2021, she decided to go on a hiatus again due to a health issue. This was announced by her agency who stated she will not be involved in any activities with TWICE. Previously, Jeongyeon was reported to have an anxiety disorder.
