Background of “Truth”
“Truth” is one of the tracks from Twice’s debut extended play, The Story Begins, that was released by JYP Entertainment on October 20, 2015. Twice debuted through a survival show named Sixteen, a collaboration between JYP Entertainment and Mnet.
With a total of 16 contestants, 7 of them were selected as the final members to debut as Twice. But, before the official debut, Park Jin-young who is the founder of JYP Entertainment added 2 other members and made Twice a nine-member group as the final decision.
The show started in May 2015 and lasted for 2 months until July 2015. Three months later, Twice made their official debut on October 20, 2015, with the EP called The Story Begins that consists of 6 songs in total. The lead single is called “Like Ooh-Ahh” while the song “Truth” is set as the fourth track on the EP.
The highlight medley of the EP that contains the entire audio instrumental sneak peek for all of the tracks, including “Truth,” was released by JYP Entertainment on October 17. Then, on October 19, one day before the EP was officially released, Twice held a live broadcast through Naver V App on their official account for the countdown event.
Also, on the same day, Twice introduced their official light stick called “Candy Bong.” The name of the light stick was inspired by one of the songs on the EP, the fifth track titled “Candy Boy.” The word “Boy” was replaced with “Bong” which means stick in Korean.

Story of “Truth”
“Truth” is a song by Twice written by one of the members of Dsign Music, Choi Jin-suk. He was not only in charge as the songwriter but also as the arranger for “Truth.”
Consisting of various genres, “Truth” is a combination of pop dance, punk, and ballad. Contrary to the title “Truth,” the lyrics of this song describe a situation of a woman who is pretending she is okay and acts cool every time she is around the man she likes. In fact, she is feeling flustered and nervous inside. The “truth” is that she wants to say to him that she really likes him a lot and always wants to be with him. She is hesitant about whether she should confess her feelings and tell the “truth” or not.
Besides Choi Jin-suk, other creative and amazing people also took part in this song including Anne Judith Wik, Nermin Harambašić, Tatiauna “Tatu” Matthews, and Xin Xin Gao. The 5 of them made the music for “Truth.”
