Debut as Actress Kim Myung-ji
“I wanted to go back to the job of the student. As soon as I became a middle school student, I became a trainee. As I did it only after finishing elementary school, I couldn’t spend my school days properly. So, I enjoyed my life back as a student. I also enjoyed my studies because I was greedy for my studies,” Kim Myung-ji stated about her memory from back then when she was a middle school student and hurried her debut as an idol at the age of 15.
“When I was in high school, I prepared for the entrance exam, and I was able to learn acting in depth again. I studied theater as the basis, and I thought that the acting I tried for a while while working as a singer was not acting. It is a really grateful time that felt a lot for me,” she said about acting.
Based on the interview with Star News, a Korean media source, Kim Myung-ji also stated that the 3 members of Tiny-G also contacted her after seeing Myung-ji’s debut as an actress and said, “You’re doing well,” or “You’re very unique,” and made Myung-ji proud of herself.
People might think Kim Myung-ji debuted as an actress after her appearance in a K-drama, but she actually worked as a child actress, too, and then she was selected as a member to debut in girl group Tiny-G and made her name became more known. After leaving in 2014, Kim Myung-ji returned to school. She found a life that suits her age again and relieved the regrets of her studies by going back in school. While entering the 3rd grade of high school, Kim Myung-ji had a dream of acting and step by step became an actress.
Class of Lies
Class of Lies (Hangul: 미스터 기간제) is a drama released in 2019 and broadcasted on OCN. It also has the other title of Mr. Temporary and was worked on by director Sung Yong-iI. it has a lineup of actors including Yoon Kyun-sang, Geum Sae-rok, Jun, Choi Yoo-hwa, Choi Kyu-in, Han So-eun, and Kim Myung-ji.
Class of Lies tells the story of a lawyer named Kim Moon-hyeok (played by Yoon Kyung-san) who gets the task of uncovering a murder case in an elite school. This task is given by school leaders in order to improve their image in the public eye. Kim Moon-hyeok was previously used to handling cases for the Korean upper class.
He almost never loses a trial and uses various means for the sake of victory and money. However, since handling this case, Moon-Hyeok’s brilliant career has been tarnished. Because of that, he is determined to uncover this case by pretending to be a teacher in order to smooth the investigation process.
Although the focus of the case to be solved is the murder of one of the students. Other secrets about this school start being exposed, including the sale and purchase of valuables, bullying, and prostitution among students. At this school, Moon-hyeok also meets Ha So-hyun (played by Geum Sae-rok), a female teacher who cares for her students.
In the drama, Myung-ji plays the role of Na Ye-ri who likes to act and wants to become a Korean idol. Unfortunately, Ye-ri’s desire has to stop because of a murder case that involves her and her friends. Na Ye-ri is a very popular school student and also a trainee to debut as an idol soon. She is happy to be a student that many people talk about at school. However, she has a father who was transferred to a branch in India after he was caught attacking and harassing his subordinates and contractors.
Na Hye-ri has the ambition to immediately debut as an idol and surpass everyone in the Veritas Club, a special and secret club for privileged students who can control teachers and students and manipulate their school records. She even dares to use a sasaeng (fanatic fan) who is very obsessed with her to spread rumors online about other students, including Jeong Soo-ah who died under mysterious circumstances.
“I joined through an audition. It was an audition with 4 people, but since it was an interview with other people, I felt that if I couldn’t do it well, I felt like I could dry it up here. I did it without regrets, but the director seems to have enjoyed that passionate appearance. He praised me for good basic skills,” Kim Myung-ji stated about her role in Class of Lies.
“When I read Yeri’s script, the atmosphere was good, and it seemed that I followed luck. It was my first audition since I entered the agency, and I was lucky to be in a good role in a good work. The start was good. On the one hand, I thought I should try to do better and make sure this isn’t the last,” Kim Myung-ji shared about her experience of joining as one of the lead roles as Na Hye-ri in Class of Lies.
True Beauty (Hangul: 여신 강림), which aired in 2020, starred Cha Eun-woo, Moon Ga-young, and Hwang In-yeop and has become one of the dramas favored by K-drama lovers. This webtoon adaptation drama tells the story of a student named Lim Ju-kyung who is not confident about her appearance. She also experienced bullying because her friends considered her unattractive.
Not alone, it turns out that there is a figure of Han Go-woon (played by Yeo Joo-ha), Han Seo-jun’s younger brother (played by Hwang In-yeop), who also experienced the same thing. Actress Kim Myung-ji appears in the fifth episode of the drama True Beauty and plays the character of the student who bullies Han Go-woon with annoying acting.
She is also suspected of being one of the students who uploaded Lim Ju-kyung’s video to the school’s online site on purpose so that others would give negative comments to students she didn’t like, but in the end, Han Go-woon dared to go straight to her and was angry with Jin Hee-jeong (played by Kim Myung-ji).
