A Little Information About CNBlue
This Korean pop rock band is formed in 2009, which consist by 4 handsome man. The lineup originally consisted of Jung Yong-hwa (leader, guitar, main vocals, rap), Lee Jong-hyun (guitar, vocals), Kang Min-hyuk (drums), and Kwon Kwang-jin (bass). But, Kwon Kwang-jin left the band shortly after and was replaced by Lee Jung-shin (bass, rap).
CN is an initialism for Code Name, while BLUE a stand for burning, lovely, untouchable, and emotional. it is meant to portray the images of Jong-hyun, Min-hyuk, Jung-shin, and Yong-hwa, respectively. They did has a loyal fans called Boice. This one band started his career in Japan through the mini album Now or Never in 2009, unlike the Korean artist who was debuting in his own country before debut in Japan.
CNBlue Popularity in South Korea
CNBlue under the auspices of FNC Entertainment has just officially debuted in Korea on January 14, 2010 with the main song Bluetory and I’m A Loner. Their first Korean album also managed to sit on top of Gaon Chart for two weeks. Shortly after, they released a name for fans of “Boice” which is a combination of the words “blue” and “voice”.
In March, the band started preparations for their first full-length independent album Thank U in Japan. It was released on March 20 with several tracks co-written and co-composed by Jung Yong-hwa. CNBLUE headed back to Korea and released their next single, “Love Light” on May 10, in precedence of their next album. On May 19, their second extended play Bluelove was released and peaked at number three on the Gaon Album Chart. CNBLUE held their comeback performance on Mnet’s M! Countdown the following day.
Most people think that to be successful in Korean music world only through boy group or girl group only. However, CNBlue eliminated that perspective through their success as a rock band. The making of songs from CNBlue albums is also usually done by four of their own members.
Not infrequently the songs from CNBlue is occupying the top position in various Korean music charts such as Gaon and Melon. Call it the song I’m Sorry, Intuition, You’re So Fine and other songs that are successfully liked by many people.

CNBlue Popularity Achievement in Japan
CNBLUE has not made their official major debut in Japan, they were known as an indie band. But, they’ve had an excellent reputation even before they debut officially (on October 19th). They started to get Japanese fans’ attention through Jung Yonghwa who was casted in drama series “You’re Beautiful”.
On September 25, Tower Record Shibuya will not hold the fans to buy the CD even on early morning. CNBLUE last indie album “392” placed in visible place near the entrance floor. Tower Record’s staff commented about CNBLUE’s popularity “These days, CNBLUE gained very high popularity in Japan. Their album always sold well.”.
CNBLUE released their first full-length album First Step with the title track Intuition on March 21. The song earned the band a total of 7 music show wins, with three wins each on Mnet’s M! Countdown and KBS Music Bank
CNBlue who was proven popular with around 20,000 fans even before their official debut, left their indie activities, and moved to mainstream stage under Japan’s large music label, Warner Music Japan. The band released their debut single In My Head on October 19, composed by Jung Yonghwa. The single peaked at number four on the Oricon Weekly Chart with 70,000+ units sold in its first week.
When CNBlue Start Losing Their Popularity?
Everything won’t last forever. Just like the music or entertainment industry, everyday there will be a new person or thing who replaced the old one. But it doesn’t mean the old one will be forgotten, it’s become a ‘Legend’. Besides, there must be a loyal fans who always remember them forever.
As a successful band picking up the hearts of many people, almost all countries have been visited by CNBlue. Especially with their world tour titled Blue Moon in 2013. In the world tour, they visit Asia, Europe, Australia, South America, and North America. They became the first South Korean rock band that made a concert tour around the world like this. According to a survey by Nikkei Style Japan, CNBlue was ranked 40th in the 2016 Most Mobilization Concerts Power list for a successful gathering of 187 thousand spectators.
Lately, CNBlue also did a concert in a several country, include Indonesia, and they are still get the tickets sold. CNBlue still have a loyal fans who will support them until the end.
CNBlue Members Popularity Ranking
1. Jung Yonghwa’s Popularity
As many people know, especially Boice, Yonghwa is the most popular among the other members. Because he take a role in a several drama and variety show, he also still active to composed a music either for his group or for himself.
But, in some interview with kpopbehind, Yonghwa stated that his popularity has faded “My popularity started to fade at some point. Some people fall into despair in such a situation because they can’t forget their glory days. But, I’m not in despair now. I’m still trying hard to maintain my position, and I want to be upgraded.”
2. Kang Minhyuk’s Popularity
In a second place we got Minhyuk. He known as an actor lately because he also usually take a role in some drama such as Hospital Ship, School 2017, Entertainment, The Heirs, and Heartstrings where he play the role with Yonghwa.
3. Lee Jonghyun’s Popularity
The 3rd place there is Jonghyun. Perhaps he rarely show on the drama, but he usually take a role in a variety show or advertisement. And if you never know this, Jonghyun was the lead actor in Orange Marmalade drama series. He also acted in several dramas such as “Gentleman’s Dignity” (2012), “Adolescence Medley” – ep 3 (2013), “My Only Love Song” (2017) and his current drama project is “That Man Oh Soo” (2018) along with actress Kim So-eun and it’s still airing on OCN.
4. Lee Jungshin’s Popularity
And the last we got the Goddess Jungshin. He start gained more attention after he appeared on “We Got Married” as a “brother–in–law“. He also acted in several dramas such as “My Husband Got a Family” (2012), “Seo-Young, My Daughter” (2013), “The Blade and Petal” (2013), “Temptation” (2014), “The Girl Who Sees Smells” – as an idol star in ep 6 (2015), “Cinderella and Four Knights” (2016), and “My Sassy Girl” (2017).
