Euijin, with other six members (Sumin, Minjae, D.ana, Nahyun, High.D, and NewSun), debuted in a group named SONAMOO on December 29th, 2014, under TS Entertainment. The group name literally means pine tree which led the fandom name to become Solbangool (pine cones).

They made an official debut by releasing their first EP Deja Vu with a leading track fo the same name which peaked number 1 at the Gaon weekly album chart. They also held their first showcase to promote the album and later, on February 25th, 2015, they promoted their second single “Just Go,” from the same album.

On July 27th, 2017, TS Entertainment released a teaser image of SONAMOO’s project called Happy Box Project which the group would release three singles in several months. The first single titled “Friday Night” was released on August 14th, 2017, and the second one titled “I (Knew It)” was released on November 6th, 2017.

Joined KBS’ The Unit

Although Euijin had already debuted, she used a chance to join a survival show, namely KBS’ The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project which was aired from October 2017 until February 2018. It was a similar survival show, like Mnet’s Produce 101 with a slightly different concept. At the end of the final episode, the show would produce two 9-member groups, one for males and one for females. It was opened for anyone, either a trainee or a debuted artist.

For the first three episodes, they determined about who would continue on the show. The contestants performed in a group or individually and the audience would vote during the performance (15% votes from the audience =1 boot; 90% votes = Super Boot). If someone didn’t get Super Boot, the mentors would determine if they could pass by giving at least one boot (if they were in a group, there was a possibility that not all of them could get the boots and continue). Euijin appeared in episode 2 and performed Hyuna’s “Bubble Pop.” Even though she didn’t get Super Boots, she received 4 boots from the mentors (Hwang Chi-yeul, Hyuna, Rain, and Taemin).

After the booting evaluation, the contestants were asked to do their first mission, that was forming a group of 9 members to perform. The winning group from each gender would be the center group in the music video of the show’s theme song “My Turn.” Euijin’s group won first place and became the center, while Euijin herself managed to become the center of the center. The music video was dropped on October 13th, 2017, and appeared on KBS’ Music Bank.

In the second mission, titled Restart Mission, the contestants formed a new 9-member team and chose one of the given songs to perform. One team of each gender with most votes in total during the performance would receive immunity from elimination regardless of the accumulation votes from the past episodes and would have a chance to perform on Rain’s comeback stage. In episode 5, Euijin, along with other 8 girls were in Blue team and performed 4Minute’s “Crazy.” They won second place with a total of 1,635 votes where Euijin contributed 165 votes.

For the third mission, the contestants were grouped by the mentors based on three categories: vocal, rap-vocal, and performance. All performances were arranged by the contestants themselves as the title of the mission was Self-Producing. It was a rival match between two groups per category for each gender. The top three members of the group of each gender with most votes received immunity from elimination regardless of the accumulation votes. Euijin was selected to be at the performance category in the Black team along with 8 other girls. She appeared in episode 9 and performed Ariana Grande’s “Problem.” Her group won in the rival match and was placed second among the winning teams with 337 votes. Euijin was ranked first in her group.

The fourth mission called Digital Single Release was a mission where the contestants were divided into 5 groups of each gender and the members were selected by the 5 top contestants of each gender from the latest previous mission. They would perform newly produced songs from reputable producers which later were released as digital singles. The winner of each gender would set their song to be the title track in the single albums and had the music videos directed by well-known directors, Hong Won-ki and Lee Gi-taek. Euijin had the chance to be the leader of her 6-member group. Her group performed “Cherry On Top” which was produced by Damon Sharpe, Alina Smith, Annalise Morelli, and Mats Ymell. The group won second place with 374 votes, while Euijin was ranked first in her group.

For the final stage, as the last mission, the remaining contestants formed two groups of each gender consisting of 9 members through random picking then performed newly produced songs. Euijin, who was again selected to be the leader, with the other 8 girls in Red team performed “You & I” which was produced by Duble Sidekick, Bull$Eye, real-fantasy, and YOSKE. The final result of the voting brought Euijin the win getting first place with a total of 108,066 votes and a chance to re-debut within a project girl group named UNI.T with other 8 winners.
