Lee Seung-gi had said several times that Yoona was his ideal type, long before they began dating. On the other hand, Yoo Hee-yeol discreetly asked Yoona, during her appearance with SNSD, about Lee Seung-gi, and she answered “One of your seniors that you have known a long time has been jokingly saying that you are his ideal type for a long time, Is he interested in you or not?”. Yoona raised up her green stick to indicate the answer as ‘yes’ while smiling widely.
Yoona and Lee Seung-gi were often linked to another popular couple, Suzy and Lee Min-ho, as all of them have worked together in various pairings. Lee Seung-gi and Suzy were co-stars in MBC’s drama Gu Book Family, and will reunite in their latest drama Vagabond. Yoona and Lee Min-ho were chosen to be the brand ambassadors for the cosmetics line ‘Innisfree’.
On 8 October, 2014, Super Junior’s Leeteuk, who has been known to give relationship advice to SM Entertainment artists, appeared on MBC’s Radio Star and the MC asked “Did Yoona or Sooyoung get advice from you?”, and Leeteuk replied, “In Yoona’s case, I had already known about her relationship”.
Leeteuk was hesitant to say more about Yoona and Lee Seung-gi’s relationship, but he concluded, “Their relationship is their story, so I am not sure about the process of how it happened. But I think I may have played an important role in the relationship between the two of them. I will just end it at that”.
In one interview, Lee Seung-gi was asked whether he could cook, to which he answered, “I began learning a few years ago, but I picked up again recently.” The reporter then asked, “Did you ever personally cook for ‘that person’ when you were learning?” Lee Seung-gi smoothly dodged the question by saying, “I think I know what answer you are looking for but the timing of the two is different”.
Still related to cooking, Lee Seung-gi appeared on KBS2’s Yoo Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook. At the time, Lee Seung-gi said that he makes pasta and tteokbeokki easily, and that his tteokbeokki is tastier than any other kind, which led Yoo Hee-yeol to ask, “Who in particular said that (your tteokbeokki is tastier than any other kind)? Who likes it the most?” Once again, Lee Seung-gi avoided the expected answer as he replied, “A lot of my female friends said so”.
On the other hand, When Yoona attended the press conference for InStyle’s Channel Soshi, she was asked by a journalist about whom she wants to cook for. She was given three options, Chef Baek Jong-won, SM Entertainment’s founder Lee Soo-man, and her boyfriend Lee Seung-gi. Instead of answering the question, Yoona said, “It seems that you already pick an answer you want to hear”. She also explained that she would like to try cooking at home, and offer it to her family and group members. Based on these situations, we can see how similar Yoona and Lee Seung-gi are, when it comes to handling questions about their relationship.
On 17 March, 2014, Yoona became a guest of SBS’ Healing Camp, along with Sooyoung and Tiffany. During her appearance in the show, Yoona revealed what she felt regarding her dating news with Lee Seung-gi, “I became the first SNSD member to go public with her relationship, so I had a lot of thoughts since, because of me, the other 8 members would be put in uncomfortable positions, having to answer questions about me and my dating life”. She kept apologizing to the members as it was not only her own dating news which was revealed to the public but also other members’, “I wish this did not come out. If it was just me, it would be ‘Yoona is doing this,’ but with one more person (referring to Sooyoung, whose dating news was revealed on 3 January, 2014), it became ‘SNSD is doing this.’”
She wasn’t just asked about her feelings about her dating news, Yoona was also asked by the MC, Lee Kyung-gyu, whether she felt jealous towards Suzy, who was co-starring with Lee Seung-gi, “It was only work. I want to know where these stories come out from”.
Yoona and Lee Seung-gi were asked during an interview about the people who kept them energized, and they both replied that their families were the main source of their energy.
In the first episode of SNSD’s reality show Channel Soshi in 2015, there was a game session. At one session, Yuri mentioned Lee Seung-gi, which made Yoona hit her with a head pillow. Even so, Yoona didn’t seem to be too annoyed by Yuri’s blunt talk about her boyfriend.
