Shinhwa’s Andy Lee has made his comeback as a solo singer with his track “Fall in Love….” on December 24th, 2018. In the music video, Andy himself acts as a guy who shows that he is excited yet nervous because he falls in love with someone he really likes. Details About Shinhwa’s Andy’s Military Service
Andy enlisted for his military service on January 11th, 2010. He had been training for 6 months at Nonsan Military Training Centre and then entered active duty. He was the only member of Shinhwa who was doing active service. He endured military service duty for 21-months at The Ministry of National Defense in Yongsan-gu, Seoul before making his comeback as a singer. He finished his military service well and was discharged from the military on October 31st, 2011.
Gambling Scandal Surrounding Shinhwa’s Andy
In mid-November 2013, Andy was reported for illegally gambling on soccer matches resulting with a fine of 5 million won. On November 14th, 2013, the Seoul Central District Prosecution Office revealed the result of the ongoing investigation about Shinhwa’s Andy’s illegal gambling case, and the prosecutor reportedly discovered that Andy has gambled an estimated 40 million won ($ 37,000).
The agency that manages Andy’s solo carrier, which is his own company, TOP MEDIA, released an official apology for the scandalous cases. The statement read, “Firstly, we apologize with bowed head for causing many fans anxiety with this shameful activity.” Then they added, “Now Andy is deeply self-reflecting regarding this situation and the result of the prosecution.” Because of the illegal gambling activity, Andy withdrew and took a hiatus from all his activities as a solo artist and as a member of the band.
On December 8th, 2013, on JTBC Shinhwa’s Broadcast, four members of Shinhwa made an apology on behalf of their fellow member Andy regarding his gambling scandal. They made a 90-degree bow before the camera and apologized as a group. The leader of Shinhwa, Eric Mun, made a statement, “We want to sincerely apologize to everyone who became worried after the incident with one of our members. During these times, Shinhwa will do our best in our activities and will strive harder. In the future, we will be a ‘Shinhwa’ who can return your encouragement and cheers.”
Andy came back and started getting involved with Shinhwa activities in 2014, after his hiatus, that was brought about by his illegal gambling activity. On February 23rd, 2015, Shinhwa made an appearance on SBS’ Healing Camp where Andy made his comeback with the band and made a public apology on TV for his past illegal gambling activity.
He said, “I wanted to say sorry for disappointing people with such a disgraceful act as both a person and a celebrity. During my 17 years of activity as a celebrity, since I debuted, I’ve been very grateful and sorry.” He even apologized to his fellow band members as well.
