Ryu Dam is a South Korean comedian and actor. He made his career as a comedian at KBS in 2003. Famous for his slapstick comedy, Ryu Dam has been slowly branching out into acting, focusing on comical characters. Now, he’s become even more famous for his appearance in the show Law of the Jungle with fellow comedian, Kim Byung Man.

Ryu Dam’s Career
Ryu Dam found a niche in comedy right from the beginning. He got into the 18 group at KBS comedian. After he graduated from university, he took the comedian test, and passed. His motto as a comic is “Let’s not be funny person but let’s make other person laughs”. His notable work in Gag Concert was a skit titled Master, in which he performed with comedian Kim Byung Man and Noh Woo Jin.
The concept of the skit is one of them was pretending to be a master and Ryu Dam became the judge. Then, the one who had special ability started showing his ability with strange missions, hoping to become the master, but in the end he failed. The skit was so popular it became the longest-running skit at Gag Concert. It was broadcast for 4 years, from 2007 until 2011, and became one of the legendary skits in the show.
Ryu Dam was also part of the music group ‘고음불가’, along with comedian Lee Su Geun, Byeon Ki Su, and Ryu Dam himself. The group debuted in 2006 with the digital EP ‘High Noise Digital EP’. The group has been performing at Gag Concert and does skit as a group. Ryu Dam’s is a vocalist, along with Byeon Ki Su. His high-pitched voice became his trademark. Lee Soo Geun is in charge of interrupting the song with his ad-libs and low voice while the other two are singing seriously, making their performance even funnier.
After working as a comedian for a while, Ryu Dam started branching out into acting. His first drama was Queen Seondeok, as one of the supporting actors. Even though he only had a smaller role, Ryu Dam was able to demonstrate his acting ability. After his performance in Queen Seondeok, he took another role in the Joseon period drama, Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Soon after that project was finished, he starred in the drama Royal Family, along with actor Ahn Jae Wook, showing that Ryu Dam is excellent in popular dramas as well as historical pieces. His other notable role was in the drama Money Flower. In that drama, his played Park Yong Goo, best friend of Kang Pil Joo, who was played by Jang Hyuk. Not limiting himself to dramas, Ryu Dam has also been in the movies. He was a voice actor in the movie The Reef 2: High Tide and in Julie’s Land Adventure. Ryu Dam is really multitalented!
Ryu Dam’s appearance on the reality show Law of the Jungle has become a hot topic. He’s been on the show since its first season, with comedian Kim Byung Man. Because of his several experiences, he’s become a jungle veteran. He gained the know-how to survive in the jungle, such as how to hunt fish in the sea and how to find edible fruit. He was even given nickname ‘Dugong’ because of his excellent swimming skill.
Ryu Dam’s love of nature is what makes him to stay on the show. When he was in the middle of shooting the drama Light and Shadows, Ryu Dam decided to join the tribe shooting the show at Madagascar. He explained his reasons an the interview with a news outlet, “I like nature so much and it seems that my head is getting cleaned if I go there.” Ryu Dam also said that he’s eager to explore place outside his neighborhood.
