A Gentleman’s Dignity: Review

A Gentleman’s Dignity tells a story about four men who have been friends since they were 18. As time goes by, the drama shared about their lifetime in their forties, when they  already went through hardships, love, success, career and complicated personal life.

Kim Dojin (played by Jang Donggun), Choi Yoon (played by Kim Minjong), Im Taesan (played by Kim Suro), and Lee Jungrok (played by Lee Jonghyuk) are four friends who often gather together and discuss their lives with each other. Dojin and Taesan are architects, Yoon is a lawyer, and Jungrok is the owner of a coffee shop given to him by his wealthy wife.

Destiny brought Dojin with Seo Yisoo (played by Kim Haneul). Yisoo is an acquaintance of Taesan and Yoon. Yisoo always secretly admired Taesan, who, unfortunately, fell in love with Yisoo’s friend, Hong Sera (played by Yoon Seah). Dojin, who knows that Yisoo likes Taesan, uses the opportunity to tease Yisoo. But at the end, he was attracted to Yisoo.

Lee Jung Rok, owner of the cafe, is a playboy who’s behavior is unaffected by his wife’s tantrums. While his wife is the heir of wealth, the owner of the building is one block including the apartment that is occupied by Kim Do Jin, along with the third office building of this ahjussi. There is self-paranoia if it concerns the existence of Park Min Sook (played by Kim Jung-nan) who is always angry about her husband, who’s always wandering around. The main reason was that he was afraid the rent would be raised someday, just for inflation reasons.

As for Choi Yoon’s figure, he is a lawyer who always relys upon by his three friends, and is calm and professional about his work. Still overshadowed by the death of his wife, he made a little grip on the presence of another woman. If not because of her friends who were a bit ‘threatening’, his life would be monotonous. In this drama there will be a love line with Im Tae San’s younger sister, who has fallen in love with her for a long time, Im Me Ah Ri (played by Yoon Jin Yi) while her own sister has little objection to their relationship.

The other storyline came from the lead role, Im Tae San (played by Kim Su-ro), he is a partner at Do-jin’s firm and took the construction division. He is a member of the Blue Cats baseball team, Im Me Ah Ri’s brother (played by Yoon Jin-yi) and is a friend of Yi-soo.

Kim Do-jin is an architect, handsome, successful and rich. A true playboy who doesn’t want to be committed to one woman. But all that changed when he met Seo Yi Soo. He was even willing to be exclusive with Yi Soo. Yi Soo was a woman he had met several times by chance, but Do Jin thought she was were different women. Only after a while did he realize that the women who made him curious were all the same woman: Seo Yi Soo.

Actor Kim Min-jong (김민종) as Choi Yoon (최윤)

Choi Yoon is a very romantic lawyer and, unfortunately, seven years after his wife’s death he still has a hard time forgetting it (so he still wears a wedding ring). He stayed at Tae-san’s house for a while but because Tae-san’s sister had returned to Korea he moved to live with Do-jin. Tae-san’s sister, Im Me Ah Ri, who came from another country, likes him. At first he refused but when he saw the beauty of Im Me Ah Ri, who keep chasing after him, he finally opened his heart and feelings for her.

Actor Kim Su-ro (김수로) as Im Tae-san (임태산)

Im Tae-san is one of Do-jin’s best friends and they worked together to build a company. Im Tae-san worked at the construction division and is the type of guy who acts first and thinks later. He already has a girlfriend named Hong Sera, and she’s actually a girl who can’t commit to a relationship but their love story lasted through this drama, although they had their conflicts sometimes.

Actor Lee Jong-hyuk (이종혁) as Lee Jung-rok (이종록)

Lee Jung-rok is an owner of a coffee shop and married to a wealthy woman. When he was a teenager, he was known as the most handsome man and that’s why he was a playboy for his entire life. His wife is out of patience with his behavior and takes his wedding ring every time he doesn’t wear it, and even asked him for a divorce. Lee Jung-rok’s friends are helping try to save his marriage, because if he doesn’t, the coffee shop will be taken and managed by his wife.

Actress Kim Ha-neul (김하늘) as Seo Yi-soo (서이수)

This role was originally taken by Lee Na-young, but due to a filming delay, actress Lee Na-young resigned from this role. In this drama, Seo Yi-soo was known as a very kind, understanding counselor/teacher and also an expert baseball player. Seo Yi-soo actually has secret feelings toward Im Tae-san but, unfortunately, the guy who she fell in love with handed his heart to another woman, Hong Se-ra. Kim Do-jin, who is also a friend of Im Tae-san, knew that Seo Yi-soo has feelings to his best friend and keeps annoying her because she ended up by having a heartbreak. Who knows that karma does exist? It was Kim Do-jin who eventually falls in love with Seo Yi-soo.

Actress Yoon Se-ah (유세윤) as Hong Se-ra (세라황)

Hong Se-ra is a professional golfer who lived in the same house with Seo Yi-soo and was known as a playgirl because she was only looking for someone who was rich. One day, she found out that Im Tae-san is a rich man and a deputy director, then Hong Se-ra made a quick approach to date him immediately. She doesn’t know that her friend, Seo Yi-soo, has  secret feelings for the man who just became her next target.

Actress Park Min-sook (박민숙) as Kim Jung-nan (김정난)

Kim Jung-nam is a career woman who is rich, beautiful, smart, and still looks ten years younger than her actual age, but all that does not guarantee her happiness because after a long period of marriage she has not been able to her roaming husband and still has no offspring. Kim Jung-nan is married to Lee Jung-rok.

Actress Yoon Jin-yi (윤진이) as Im Me Ah Ri (임메아리)

Im Me Ah Ri is a 24 year old woman who is also Im Tae-san’s younger sister. She doesn’t have much self-confidence because she used to be a fat girl, but then she decided to move to America, eventually returning to South Korea with prettier looks. Im Me Ah Ri has a crush on a lawyer for a long time and tried hard to get his attention by sending him many gifts through her friend, Seo Yi-soo. After returning to South Korea, she finally met Choi Yoon, who seemed attracted with her.

CNBLUE’s Lee Jong-hyun (이종현) as Collin (콜린)

Collin is a handsome young man who has a unique nature. He was born in America and living in an American style. After his mother died and he was disappointed with his stepfather, he decided to go back to Korea and look for his biological father, based on a photo of his mother with four uncles. When he showed it to the four ahjussi he asked whether one of them is his biological father. He often appears anytime and anywhere in the drama (mysterious isn’t it?).
