Kim Hye-sun began modeling when she was in middle school, back then she was attending Anyang High School of the Arts. She was featured in commercials for Orion, Lotte Samkang, and Korea Cosmetics. She later made her acting debut in 1986 with a minor role in the movie “Dancing Daughter”. She quickly gained popularity as a teen star with an innocent and bright image. Kim Hye-sun also became active in the Japanese entertainment industry in 1988, where she was known under the name Shirakawa Shoko. In 1993, she won Best Supporting Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for her performance in “Love Is Oh Yeah!”.

In 2018, Kim Hye-sun said that she went bankrupt after being unable to pay off her W2.3 billion debt. This debt was caused by her ex-husband, whom she divorced in 2009. Her husband won’t give her custody of her daughter if she doesn’t pay the debt.
