
Park Min-young’s Acting Career
Park Min-young is a popular actress from South Korea. Her first appearance in entertainment was in an SK Telecom commercial in 2005. She made her acting debut a year later in the sitcom High Kick!. Her first role was as Kang Yoo-mi, Kim Hye-seong’s girlfriend in the drama. Park’s next drama was I Am Sam. She became one of the main cast members, and played the role of the daughter of an infamous gangster who refuses to learn. She received an award for Best New Actress in the KBS Drama Awards 2007 for her role.
In the following years, Park Min-young appeared in the dramas Hometown of Legends: Gumiho (Nine-tailed Fox)(2008), Ja Myung Go (2009), Running, Gu (2010), and Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010). In the latter drama, she played one of the lead roles, along with Park Yoo-chun, Yoo Ah-in and Song Joong-ki. She played a smart, responsible, and independent young woman who disguises herself as her brother in order to make ends meet for her family. The drama was set in Sungkyunkwan University in the late Joseon era. Park earned awards in the categories of Excellence Award Actress in a Mid-length Drama and Best Couple Award with Park Yoo-chun.
In 2011, Park Min-young acted in City Hunter as an independent and strong-willed woman who has exceptional skills in martial arts, and is assigned with the Presidential Security Service. Her co-stars in the drama were Lee Min-ho and Lee Joon-hyuk. That same year, Park made her big-screen debut in the horror film The Cat. She played an employee in a small pet-grooming cat who has a claustrophobia and starts having apparitions of a ghostly young girl with cat-like eyes. Park returned to the small screen with the drama Glory Jane (2011), along with Chun Jung-myung and Lee Jang-woo, where she played a hardworking nurse who doesn’t remember her past.
In the following years, Park Min-young acted in Dr. Jin (2012), A New Leaf (2014) and Healer (2014 – 2015). In the latter drama, she co-starred with Ji Chang-wook and Yoo Ji-tae, playing a strong-willed and quirky internet news reporter who is traumatized and suffers from panic attacks whenever she sees violence. Park and Ji Chang-wook won the Best Couple Awards in the KBS Drama Awards for 2014. Park also appeared in the drama Remember (2015 – 2016), along with Yoo Seung-hoo and Park Sung-woong.
In 2017, Park Min-young became the female lead in the drama Queen for Seven Days. The drama tells a tragic love story between real-life King Jung-jong (acted by Yeon Woo-jin) and his wife, Queen Dang-yeong (acted by Park Min-young), who was both crowned and deposed from the throne within seven days. They spent the rest of their lives longing for each other. The director of the show had previously worked with Park in Glory Jane and Healer.
Park Min-young’s latest drama is What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? (2018). The drama is based on a web novel with the same title. Park acts the role of a highly-skilled secretary who works for Lee Young-joon (acted by Park Seo-joon), a Vice Chairman of a major corporation, for nine years and decides to quit her job. The drama became a hit, increasing her popularity.
