All About ‘Oh My Ghost’ Main Actress Park Bo-young: Profile, Plastic Surgery, Drama List, etc.

General Information About Actress Park Bo-young

Park Bo-young is a South Korean actress who is well-known for playing the leading roles of Hwang Jeong-nam / Hwang Je-in in Scandal Makers (2008), Soon Yi / Eun Joo in A Werewolf Boy (2012), Na Bong-soon in tvN’s Oh My Ghost 2015 drama, and Do Bong-soon in JTBC’s Strong Woman Do Bong Soon 2017 drama.

During her middle school days, she acted for the very first time in a short movie Equal that her video production club made. The short movie won the Challenging Reality Award at the 7th Seoul International Youth Film Festival in 2005.

Then she made her official debut as an actress with EBS’s Secret Campus teen drama in 2006.

There was a video production club in her middle and high school who were filming a horror movie, but didn’t have money. They said to cast the smallest person in the youngest grade and make them into a doll. Park Bo-young was the smallest person so she became a doll. She admitted that she actually doesn’t like horror movies yet she was a cast for some horror movies.

She rose to fame after starring with actor Cha Tae-hyun in Scandal Makers / Speedy Scandal comedy movie in 2008. The movie drew 8.3 million viewers to become the number one top grosser in 2008 and one of Korean cinema’s biggest hits. On July 30, 2018, she appeared on MBC’s Section TV Entertainment Relay for an interview. The interviewer asked about her Scandal Makers movie which catapulted her to stardom, “When you received this script, did you think that it would be successful?”

She answered, “At the time, I was not in a position to receive a script. I went on many auditions. I think I auditioned about four times because they kept calling me. It’s the film that allowed me to be where I am today.”

Her father, Park Wan-soo, served the country for 34 years as a soldier in the special forces for South Korea. Park Bo-young said, “My father was really supportive. He said to do what I wanted to do.”

In 2008, she had been dubbed as “Nation’s Little Sister (국민 여동생)” that refers to “A young female celebrity in her late teens to early twenties who is cute, bright, and innocent” in the entertainment industry.

According to Soompi, she stated that she has a low self-esteem like her character on Strong Woman Do Bong-soon. In response to a question about why she has low self-esteem, she replied, “I think it’s something that developed as I continued to work in this industry. I am always thinking about how I appear to others and there is a burden that comes with that. Even when I receive compliments, to me they just sound like things people say to be nice to me. So, at the beginning of the year, instead of a resolution like ‘I’ll do this many projects this year,’ I made a resolution to believe in myself more and to love myself more.”

Park Bo-young is also famous for her drinking a soju scene in a drama. It’s because the size of her face and her hand look so small that when drinking soju it looks as if she is drinking a cup of water. And because of this, Park Bo-young contracted a Soju CF.

She is also a fan of Hanwha Eagles. On August 30, 2016, she was spotted at a baseball game in Seoul. As part of the crowd, she was sporting a jersey in a favor of Hanwha Eagles.

She even received an autographed baseball from Hanwha Eagles baseball player Jeong Keun-woo when she asked.

She can play guitar and piano well and she is a good singer. Her sister was a piano music major, and she has learnt piano until elementary school but she said that she did not meet her aptitude so she quit.

She said, “I made my debut in a EBS teen drama during my high school days, there was a bit of harassment and bullying, maybe because it was a girls’ high school.”

According to Soompi, she explained that due to jealousy from her fellow schoolmates, they began to treat her differently, “It was not because I was pretty. There were no actors and actresses in my neighborhood back then, so I got attention just for being an actress.”

She continued, “Some kids would deliberately knock shoulders with me while passing by. Students from other classes put trash all over my desk and seat. There were some friends who wanted to protect me. They would try to clean it up for me.”
