Kim Jong-hyun in Produce 101 season 2

In 2017, JR, Baek-ho, Min-hyun, and Ren joined the second season of a survival show made by Mnet, called  Produce 101, where they had to compete with trainees from various agencies to make a music group that will get to debut. Min-hyun was the only one to make his way to debut with the group, Wanna One.

Although JR didn’t get to join Wanna One, he still had a special place in his fan’s hearts, because of the humility, leadership skills, and talent he showed during the program. Those traits were clear to see when a lot of the other trainees liked to be in the same group as he was, and he was consistently placed in the top ranks of the show. He was given the nickname National Leader because of his leadership skills.

All his positive traits made the viewers, especially his fans, give him a lot of support. The judges, the other trainees, and even the fans were sure that he’d be one of the contestants to make it, because he was so consistently being given high rankings, so everyone was surprised when he wasn’t one of the 11 to debut with Wanna One. At the end, he came in 14th.

Luckily, the rest of the members of NU’EST (except Minhyun) paid off the fan’s longings to have them perform. A few months after Produce 101 season 2 finished, they made a comeback under the name NU’EST W, as a unit. By the end of November, they were reported to make a final comeback as NU’EST W, and Min-hyun will be returning to NU’EST.
