NCT U
On April 4, 2016, SM Entertainment announced NCT’s first unit, NCT U (the “U” standing for United). The sub-unit itself doesn’t have exact members. The members always change in every comeback, depending on who is suitable and appropriate for the concept of the comeback.
NCT U officially debuted on April 9, 2016, with six members (Taeyong, Taeil, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, and Mark), and released the digital singles “The 7th Sense” (Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, and Mark) and “Without You” in two versions (a Korean version sung by Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun, and a Chinese version with the addition of SM Rookies’ Kun).
In January 2018, NCT U (Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun) released the single “Timeless” as part of the SM Station project.
On March 14, 2018, NCT U released the singles “BOSS”, “Yestoday”, and “Baby Don’t Stop” as part of NCT 2018 “Empathy”, a full-length studio album that brought together all active units of NCT and grouped them under the collective name NCT 2018.
NCT Dream
NCT Dream is the third sub-unit of the South Korean boy-group NCT. This sub-unit carries a graduation system, where members will graduate from the unit after reaching the Korean age of 20 (19 internationally).
NCT Dream debuted on August 24, 2016, consisting of seven members: Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung (but Mark already graduated from the group on December 31, 2018), with their first single “Chewing Gum”, that they performed on M Countdown the next day.
On February 9, 2017, NCT Dream released their first single album, “The First”, with its lead single, “My First and Last”. But, unfortunately, Jaemin did not participate in the release due to health problems. As usual, NCT Dream had their comeback stage on M Countdown, performing the title track, “My First and Last”, and B-side track, “Dunk Shot”.
On March 15, NCT Dream released the single “Trigger the Fever”, as they became the official ambassadors for the “2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea”.
While on August 17, 2017, they released their first EP, “We Young”.
NCT Dream also released a Christmas single, “Joy,” as part of SM Station on December 15, 2017.
On March 4, 2018, NCT Dream released the single “Go” as part of NCT 2018 “Empathy”, a full-length studio album that brought together all the active units of NCT and grouped them under the collective name NCT 2018.
On September 3, 2018, NCT Dream finally released their second EP, “We Go Up”, with the lead single of the same name, and followed by SM’s confirmation that Mark would be graduating from NCT Dream after completing promotions for the release.
On December 27, 2018, NCT Dream released a single titled “Candle Light” under SM Entertainment’s digital music project, SM Station.
On December 31, 2018, Mark officially graduated from NCT Dream.
On June 6, 2019, NCT Dream shocked their fans by releasing “Don’t Need Your Love”, a collaborative single with English singer and YouTuber HRVY. Unfortunately, Haechan did not partake in the single due to ongoing activities with NCT 127. The song was released as part of SM Station Season 3.
And, finally, they made a comeback by releasing their third EP, “We Boom”, and its title track, “Boom”, on July 26, 2019. It’s their first comeback without Mark.

WayV
WayV (威神V, WēiShén V) is the fourth, and China-based, unit of NCT. The group has seven members (Kun, Ten, Winwin, Lucas, Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang). WayV itself is managed under Label V, a Chinese label collaborating with SM productions.
On January 17, 2019, WayV officially debuted and released their first digital EP, “The Vision”, with a Chinese version of NCT 127’s “Regular” as the lead single.
On May 9, WayV released their first EP, “Take Off”, along with its eponymous title track, “Take Off”.
On October 29, WayV released their second EP, “Take Over the Moon”, with the title track “Moonwalk”. WayV had their first comeback stage for the album during MBC Music’s Show Champion on October 30, where they performed “Moonwalk”, marking the group’s first performance in Korea.
On November 5, WayV released an English-language version of “Love Talk” as the second single from the EP.
