Kim Seo-hyung Shares Her Thoughts On Playing The Character Of A Lesbian
Kim Seo-hyung participated in an interview to talk about Mine ending on Sunday, June 27th, 2021. She talked about many interesting things, including her main reason for starring in this drama.
As is known, Kim Seo-hyung plays Jung Seo-hyun, the daughter of a conglomerate who is married to the first son of the wealthy Hyowon Group. Even though she is only a daughter-in-law, she is responsible for all the household affairs of the family, including solving all the problems.
Behind that perfect side, Jung Seo-hyun is a same-sex lover. She is a lesbian character who failed to move on from her first love named Suzy Choi (played by Kim Jung-hwa).
During the interview, Kim Seo-hyung revealed quite a shocking fact. She admitted that was interested in joining this drama because she wanted to act as a same-sex lover, something that is considered to be quite a taboo in society. She said, “The first reason I chose Mine was because the show was about sexual minorities. It was a melodrama, so I accepted the role without a second thought.”
However, Jung Seo-hyun’s character doesn’t have many scenes with Suzy Choi. Because in this drama, Suzy is depicted almost always abroad.
In response, Kim Seo-hyung said, “Actually, I wish there were more scenes between Seo-hyun and Suzy. Not because they are lesbians, but because I wanted the plot to be more melodramatic. But I think the scriptwriter knows what’s best.”
Furthermore, the 1973-born actress talked about her lover, Kim Jung-hwa. She claimed to have good chemistry with Kim Jung-hwa, so their filming process always went smoothly. Kim Seo-hyung explained, “I liked her from the start for some reason. She said that she played such a role before. We prepared a lot of things then became Suzy and Seo-hyun without even thinking. There were no mistakes in that scene. It went well,” she concluded.
Lee Hyun-wook’s Comment About His Role As Han Ji-young
Approaching the end of the show on June 27th, 2021, Lee Hyun-wook and a number of other cast members shared closing comments for this drama. Lee Hyun-wook plays the main villain of Mine named Han Ji-young. Although he looks perfect at first, he is revealed as a cruel man who is willing to lie to those closest to him for his personal ambition.
That’s why it’s no wonder that Han Ji-young’s character ends up being hated so much. Many viewers were shocked because he always did evil to his wife and family. Although his character was hated, Lee Hyun-wook felt very grateful to be able to star in this drama because it shows that viewers have a lot of interest in the character.
Lee Hyun-wook said, “I’m grateful that people showed a lot of interest in the character. I hope that Mine can provide some comfort and happiness during these difficult times.”
Child Actor Jeong Hyun-jun’s Role In Mine Received Praise
The cast of Mine is also one of the factors that this drama is very popular. One of them is child actor Jung Hyun-joon who plays Han Ha-joon.
Han Ha-joon is described as the second grandson of the Hyowon Conglomerate family. He is the son of Han Ji-young with his girlfriend, Lee Hye-jin. But Han Ha-joon was forcibly taken from his mother in order to be raised in the Hyowon family.
Han Ha-joon was then raised by his stepmother, Seo Hi-soo. Although not related by blood, Seo Hi-soo’s love for Han Ha-joon is very sincere. She was even willing to fight Han Ji-young and Lee Hye-jin to get custody of Han Ha-joon.
tvN also shared footage of Seo Hi-soo’s scene with Han Ha-joon enjoying ramen together. In the scene, Seo Hi-soo introduces the general public to how to eat ramen, something Ha-joon doesn’t know because he lives in a conglomerate family. That’s why Ha-joon got so enthusiastic.
After the video was released, fans immediately flooded it with various comments. Some of them highlighted Jung Hyun-joon’s acting who could portray Han Ha-joon well even though he was not even 10 years old.
“This boy looks very adorable,” wrote a netter. “He is a child actor with capable acting that we will look forward to until he grows up,” added other netters. “Ha-joon is very adorable, he is also very good at acting,” said another netter. “Ha-joon is very cute. His acting is perfect,” concluded the other netters.
5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Mine
The K-Drama that was aired on tvN, Mine, was present as entertainment for viewers every Saturday and Sunday night. The drama, which aired from May 8th to June 27th, 2021, starring Lee Bo-young and Kim Seo-hyung, tells the story of two ambitious women who seek their identity by becoming the daughters-in-law of a conglomerate family.
The K-Drama fans of mystery and family should not miss Mine as well. Why? Check out the 5 reasons why you should watch Mine in this section below.
- The Presence Of A Murder Case
In addition to the discord in the family, the K-Drama Mine slipped a mystery story with a murder case that occurred in the first episode. However, the murder case is still a mystery about who was killed and the perpetrators of the murder. The mystery of the murder was seen by Sister Emma, a nun close to Seo Hi-soo. Mother Emma becomes a key witness to the murder mystery and reports it to the police.
- The Presence Of A Third Person
Compared to her brother-in-law, Seo Hi-soo’s marriage is harmonious and the husband loves Seo Hi-soo very much. Although Seo Hi-soo is not the biological mother of his son. However, the arrival of a tutor for his son named Kang Ja-kyung changed everything.
Kang Ja-kyung often keeps an eye on the Hyowon Group family, as if she is spying on them. This elite family tutor even dared to do such a presumptuous thing as a guest. She entered the Hyowon Group family’s dining room, and ate the meat on the table.
Since the first episode, Kang Ja-kyung’s aura seems to be more domineering and not afraid to be presumptuous at the conglomerate’s residence. Several times in the scene, Ja-kyung showed a desire to be a ‘hostess’ and tried to shift Seo Hi-soo’s position. Even in the footage of the second episode, Ja-kyung is allegedly the third person who wants to steal Han Ji-yong from Seo Hi-soo.
- Although Full Of Intrigue, There Is Also An Element Of Humor
To make the audience not worry too much about business intrigue or romance, tvN inserts an element of humor in Mine, such as servants who like to gossip about their masters. The servants are led by Joo Min-soo (played by Park Sung-yeon) who also likes to gossip.
In addition, the background music used in the drama can break the audience’s tension when watching the drama Mine.
- The Audience Is Amazed By The Luxury
Chairman Han’s family (played by Jeong Dong-hwan) owns snack business groups, hotels, and art galleries. Through this business, it is not surprising that the Han family lives in super-luxurious housing. There are extensive gardens and lakes, and several building complexes reachable by golf cart. At family dinners and/or guest meals, they are served by dozens of housekeepers. The white water is also amazing because it comes from melted Antarctic ice.
