Loona’s Latest News
In early February 2019, three members of Loona, namely Heejin, Hyunjin, and Go Won had an interview with SPOTV News. They revealed the group’s upcoming concert and comeback plan in 2019 and their hope to get more recognition from the public. Hyunjin said that Loona’s upcoming album has a concept that has never been done before in the industry, “I hope the public will think that it is really new and fresh when they see it.” Go Won revealed her hope for Loona to be able to pull off any concept, whereas Heejin said that she would like Loona to receive more awards in 2019, “Any category would be good at the year-end awards. I want to receive a performance award as well as an award for our music. I think that we have our own unique genre, and I want to be recognized for that.”
Loona held their concert LOONAVERSE for two days on February 16th and 17th at Seoul Olympic Hall. The girls performed their group, solo, and sub-units songs which are exchanged to one another, such as Loona 1/3 who performed “love4eva’ and Loona yyxy who performed “Love&Life.”
Unfortunately, the joyous event was halted for a moment as two of the members Yves and Yeojin were injured on the first day of the concert. During the performance of “favOriTe,” Yeojin tripped on Yves and fell which led Yves to injure her nose and Yeojin to injure her knee. BlockBerry Creative stated that Yves’ nose injury will not forbid her to promote with the group, while Yeojin’s condition will be checked in more detail. Despite the injuries, Yves and Yeojin still performed their solo songs without dancing like usual.
On February 19th, Loona finally released their music video for “Butterfly.” The clip displayed women in diverse creeds and races from all around the world, such as France, Hong Kong, China, the United States of America, Iceland, and Korea. “Butterfly” conveys empowering message about gaining courage, finding oneself, and raising one’s voice to all women, including the viewers of the video as the black mirror technique is used in the video. “Butterfly” also shows the background settings which already appeared in past Loona’s music videos during their pre-debut project.
“Butterfly” gained international recognition as the song was played by Charli XCX on Apple Music’s radio station BEATS1 and included in a segment of viral internet trends of CNN Indonesia. On the other hand, Loona’s recent album [X X] notably charted at the fourth rank on the World Album Chart and topped the iTunes Pop Album Chart in 26 countries, whereas its preorders outsold due to the fewer copies printed by Kakao M, affecting their first week sales which worried the fans. Despite the fans’ concern, Loona proves that they are indeed a super rookie, don’t you agree, dear readers?
