Lee Ha-yi (born on September 23rd, 1996), or better known under her stage name Lee Hi, is a South Korean singer and songwriter from YG Entertainment. With her single “1, 2, 3, 4,” she debuted as a solo artist on October 28th, 2012, at the age of 16! She was discovered when she became the runner up of SBS Kpop Star Season 1. Lee Hi was scheduled to debut with a girl group called SuPearls that was originally formed during the show and signed under YG, consisting of Michelle Lee, Park Ji-min, Lee Seung-joo, and Lee Jung-mi. Due to the other members’ departure, the agency announced that Lee Hi would be a solo artist.

After the release and huge success of Lee Hi’s first album titled First Love in 2013, she suddenly decided to take a hiatus. Let’s find out more about the details of Lee Hi’s second album!

Lee Hi’s 2nd Album, Seoulite

In August 2015, YG Entertainment finally released information about Lee Hi’s highly anticipated comeback. But this time, the comeback will be through the YG Entertainment’s independent sub-label HIGHGRND headed by Epik High Tablo. The CEO Yang Hyun-suk stated that Lee Hi is still housed under YG Entertainment, but he decided to release the album under HIGHGRND because he was worried that he would not be able to manage the comeback well, and trusts Tablo to take the production control over the comeback.

The Title Track “Breathe”

A surprising fact came on March 5th, 2016, when it was revealed that SHINee Jonghyun had participated in the composing and writing of the title track of the album, “Breathe.” According to the source, Tablo had personally requested from Jonghyun to write a song for Lee Hi’s comeback. After leaving a deep impression on CEO Yang Hyun-suk, the song became the second title track. This issue came to light when the music video had been filmed.

“Breathe” marked its success since it ranked first on every major Korean digital chart, which is called “all kill” songs. The track debuted second on Gaon’s weekly digital chart and got in the top ten as well. Lee Hi took her first win as well for “Breathe” on March 17th, 2016, in Mnet’s Countdown.

In order to remember the late SHINee Jonghyun’s work, “Breathe” re-entered the Korean digital charts in December 2017.

Music Video

The album released three music videos which were released along with the first half and the full album.

“My Star” is a super fun song, themed in the vibe of the 70s. The music video was released along with the full album.

Still in the super cute and pinky videos, “Hold My Hands” was released with the first half of Seoulite.

Well, this is the music video of the legendary song of the late SHINee Jonghyun, “Breathe.” The song was also released with the first half of Seoulite. The song itself left a deep impression as it was like someone who wants to escape from this heavy world.
