Trainee Story

During the one minute self-introduction, Lee Ha-eun showed off her dancing skill. She was 15 years old and she introduced herself as a trainee who had been training for 2 years and 2 months at MNH Entertainment. She mentioned Charlie Chaplin as a legendary icon who brought happiness to people around the world, and she added that there was a famous quote from Charlie Chaplin which stresses the importance of laughter. Through Produce 48, she wanted to become a special idol that could touch everyone’s heart and make everyone laugh. She acknowledged that she was quite short and very young, but she was confident that she could show producers many different performances.

In the beginning of the show, the contestants each had to perform in front of the mentors for an evaluation of their current levels of skill. Every individual was given a letter grade from A to F based on their overall talents, organizing them into temporary classes for training. From the evaluation, Lee Ha-eun was sorted to grade A.

After the contestants were grouped according to their grades, the mentors announced that the contestants would be performing on M Countdown with Produce 48‘s theme song “You’re Mine (Pick Me)”. Their line distribution and positioning on stage would be determined by their grades, with the contestants who received As having the most to do, while Fs were backup dancers. After the performance, the contestants underwent a re-evaluation and had their grades modified, as necessary. From the re-evaluation, Lee Ha-eun continued to be ranked as grade A.

The next event was a group battle, where contestants were organized into 16 teams of 5-6 members; 2 teams competed against each other on a pop song. Lee Ha-eun’s group performed Twice’s “Like Ooh Aah – Japanese Version”.

In Episode 5, the contestants that were ranked 59-92 were eliminated from the competition. Lee Ha-eun was ranked the 35th place at the time, with 164,270 votes and made the cut to keep competing. The next task was to perform live in groups based on positions they want to debut in: vocal/rap or dance. Lee Ha-eun was in the dance group. Her team performed Jax Jones’ “Instruction”. In the second round of eliminations, the contestants that were ranked 31-57 were eliminated, and Lee Ha-eun was one of them since she was then ranked at 48th.
