NCT Dream’s Leader
SM Entertainment made a breakthrough by debuting a new boy group in 2016 called NCT along with the groups that are its sub-units- NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT Dream. The third unit of NCT is NCT Dream. This one unit is formed based on age. All NCT Dream members are under 20 years old. Once they reach that age, they will have to move to another NCT unit.
This group originally consisted of Mark, Haechan, Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung. NCT Dream made its debut in August 2016 with the digital single “Chewing Gum.” Among the NCT members who have debuted, Mark Lee apparently attracted quite a lot of attention. How could he not, the 1999-born idol from Vancouver, Canada, debuted three times in 4 months.
Mark first debuted as a member of NCT U in April 2016 followed by NCT 127 which debuted in July 2016 with “Fire Truck.” Having just ended the “Fire Truck” promotion period, Mark Lee was ready to debut again as a member of NCT Dream and was immediately promoted to become the leader because he was the oldest member.
“He is in all units. He must be good at dancing and rapping,” commented one netter. “He’s still young but he’s this cool. Visual, rap, dance, he’s good at everything,” praised another netter. “Wow, this is already his third debut in 4 months?” added another with surprise.
In 2018, Mark became the first member to graduate from NCT Dream. The group released the album We Go Up as a farewell album with a seven-member lineup. After that, NCT Dream was active with six members, namely Haechan, Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.
With the graduation system, NCT Dream is considered an uncertain unit because the members can change and no longer do promotions with the group.

In 2019, Renjun, Jeno, and Jaemin should have been declared graduated, but their fate seemed to be shifting. SM did not declare graduation, even though the three of them were already 20 years old.
Mark, who is the leader of NCT Dream, finally returned in 2021 with their latest single titled “Hot Sauce.”
Mark Lee as NCT Dream’s Leader
Besides being NCT Dream’s leader in the most influential position, Mark is also a member who is very close to the others and often takes care of members who are much younger than him in NCT Dream. Let’s take a look at some of NCT Dream’s Mark’s moments of closeness with the other members below!
Chenle, who is a member from China, is 2 years younger than Mark. However, this did not become a barrier for the two of them to become friends and teammates in NCT Dream. Chenle also often teases Mark, and there are a lot of interactions between the two of them that often catch the attention of fans. Being very familiar with each other, Chenle even dared to speak informally with Mark!
Not only Chenle, but Mark is also close to the other members, including Jeno. They both starred in the variety show Mickey Mouse Club which featured the youngest trainees at SM Entertainment. Besides that, Jeno and Mark have the same surname, Lee! The similarity of the surname at least influenced both characters to earn the nickname “No Jaem,” aka the member who is the least humorous or has a low limit of humor. Jeno also often replaces Mark as a rapper if Mark is unable to perform.
The other member, who is Haechan, is a member who is often paired with Mark because they seem very close like brothers. In fact, they also do not hesitate to provoke each other’s anger without any intention of fighting. Haechan and Mark also joined another sub-unit, NCT 127.
Mark’s closeness with Renjun also attracted attention. Renjun said Mark’s return made the group even more perfect. “When Mark left the group for a while, it felt like he was going to another activity and would come back. Because the seven of us who were so different became one, it feels like the album has become stronger with the NCT Dream style. Mark has always been a part of NCT Dream,” Renjun explained at length.
Being able to be together again with his friends at NCT Dream, this Canadian-born idol also is happy to accept his colleagues’ pranks. “The other members teased me without feeling awkward around me and welcomed me warmly, so I was happy,” he said.
Jaemin and Mark can be said to be the double trouble of NCT Dream because they both have very radiant charisma and include a lot of fans. When the two met, they would not even hide their idol aura and attracted NCTzens’ attention with their boyfriend vibes. The difference in age between the two of them, which is only a few months apart, makes the two of them even closer and helped them become friends as well!
Talking about one of the youngest members in NCT Dream, Jisung, Mark can also be said to be the closest member to him because they have both been under the same agency since they were little. Practicing together at a young age made them get to know each other. Their age difference also doesn’t have a big gap, and Mark guides Jisung to continue to improve in the group and also increases Jisung’s confidence to help transform him into an increasing quality idol.
