Zuny Debut with LADIES CODE
Ladies’ Code began recording their debut album in 2012. The group’s original line-up consisted of leader Ashley and members RiSe, EunB, and Zuny. But, on February 20th, 2013, Sojung confirmed that she would be joining a new girl group formed by Polaris Entertainment and that they would debut the following month.
Their debut promotion started on February 25th, 2013, with the release of the teaser video for RiSe, followed by Sojung on the 26th, EunB on the 27th, Zuny on the 28th, and Asley on the 1st of March. On March 4th, 2013, they released the group teaser for their music video.
The group debuted on March 7th, 2013, with the mini-album Code #01 Bad Girl, and the title track “Bad Girl” with the music video. The day after their debut, their song charted well on real-time music charts including Bugs, Soribada, Mnet, Daum, and eventually peaked at number 34 on the Gaon Digital Chart. This debut was considered quite a success coming from a small company girl group, as it made 34th place on the Digital Gaon chart.
The song was praised for its strong music and vocal. The group performed their debut song on Mnet’s M! Countdown on the same day as the release.
During the same year, their first digital single “Hate You” was released on August 6th, 2013, serving as a pre-release for their upcoming second mini-album. The group’s comeback was originally set for July 25th, 2013, but Zuny suffered an unexpected leg injury that pushed them back to August.
The song also got a satisfying result as it debuted high on real-time charts, leading to the group reaching their first number one on Bugs Music and entering the top 10 on four other music charts. They had quite a busy debut year as not long after, Ladies’ Code announced their comeback on August 21st, 2013, for their second mini-album Code #02 Pretty Pretty, which was released on September 5th, 2013.

On April 18th, 2019, it was announced that Zuny would play a part in the KBS2 drama Justice. This drama marked Zuny’s debut appearance in the public broadcasting station drama.
The news was announced by Polaris Entertainment, who said: “Zuny has been cast in the role of Shin Sun Hee in KBS2’s new Wed-Thurs drama Justice. This will mark her debut appearance in a public broadcasting station drama, so we ask for your abundant love and attention.”
The drama is said to be based on a web novel by writer Jang Ho and tells a story about a lawyer who is bound in a contract with the devil in order to have revenge. In this drama, Zuny played the minor role of Shim Sunhee, a mysterious woman who is losing her sight due to a past accident.

After seven years of debuting and promoting together under Polaris Entertainment, it was announced earlier this year that Ladies’ Code would be taking a hiatus as they left the agency after their contract expired.
Polaris Entertainment released a statement regarding the members’ departure on February 17th, 2020:
“Hello. This is Polaris Entertainment..
We inform you that Polaris Entertainment’s exclusive contract with group Ladies’ Code has ended as of February 17th.
Before we announce the unfortunate news, we would like to express our sadness for having to say goodbye to the members who carried out their activities passionately until the end. Moreover, we express our gratitude that can’t be expressed in words to the Ladies’ Code members who went through joys and sorrows as artists under our agency for seven years.
We send our unsparing support for Ladies’ Code’s future activities, and we will look forward to and wait for the members to promote again as Ladies’ Code.”
Having enduring moments and pains together through thick and thin, each of the members released a personal handwritten letter to thank the fans who have been supporting them.
Zuny, especially, shared pictures of the members being together (including the late Rise and EunB) and posted a touching letter to fans.
She wrote in her letter:
“Hello. This is Ladies’ Code’s chic cool guy Zuny.
It’s my first time writing a letter like this so I’m not sure what I should say to start it off.
It’s already been seven years with Ladies’ Code and Lavely. Now that I think about it, time really passes fast.
We’ve gone through many things together, crying and laughing, and it’s time for us to stay apart for a while, so I’m handwriting a letter to express my heart to the members and Lavely. It breaks my heart to think about the Lavely who will be sad to hear this news, but we are not parting—we are only staying apart temporarily to go our own ways. So please don’t be too sad, and I would like it if you could support the paths we take!!
I was the maknae who didn’t express herself much and had many shortcomings, but I’d like to express my gratitude to the members and Lavely who gave me many great memories, love, and happiness that can’t be expressed in words. My current self exists because there were the members and Lavely, and I will always work hard in life, engraving those thankful people in my heart who always believed in me and waited for me by my side. The people who were by my side even during hard times…
I will always work hard with a thankful heart. Thank you for helping me realize many things during the seven years, for providing nice relationships, for always taking care of me, waiting for me, and giving me strength by my side, and for giving me bountiful love.
Now, I will work even harder to give a good impression as Kim Joo Mi, not Zuny. Our house owner grandma~ Soju Sojung~ Lavely, I love you, and I really care about you a lot. Thank you for being someone precious to me. Thank you for everything so far.
The fans couldn’t hold their sadness for the group leaving, but they promised that they would always support them individually.
“Girls, they are my everything. I thank ladies code for making me happy, they made it excellent. I wish it wasn’t over, I will miss them from the depths of my heart, I’m devastated I can’t believe it, I am very happy to have met you, Since I met them I was too happy, it was the best stage of my life. thanks for everything. I love you too much. 🤧😭😭😭❤️💖✨,” a fan wrote. “Will keep on supporting ladies code..❣️ saranghae girls..❤️,” wrote another fan.
Meanwhile, on March 23rd, 2020, it was announced that Zuny would pursue her individual path as an actress by joining Actorsaid Entertainment. She will from now on promote herself as an actress using her birth name, Kim Joomi.
Well, we will wait and support your future activities, Zuny!
