Get to Know More About Park So-dam

Park So-dam is a South Korean actress who’s best known for her leading roles in Cinderella and Four Knights (2016) and Beautiful Mind (2016). She started her acting journey in 2013, with a role in the short film, No More No Less. Park’s interest in acting reaches back to high school, and watching the musical Grease.

While in university, Park tried to start her career, but after being rejected for about 17 auditions, she began turning to independent films. Known as a prolific performer in independent titles, Park starred in the Korean Academy of Film Arts feature Ingtoogi: Battle of the Internet Trolls and the indie film Steel Cold Winter, which drew notice when it premiered at the Busan International Film Festival. Even though the public still wasn’t giving her much notice, Park won several awards for her work. She broke into the mainstream in 2015, after making a strong impression with her performance in The Silenced, which nabbed her a win for Best Supporting Actress at the Busan Film Critics Awards. She was then featured in the box-office hits Veteran and The Throne, which led to her casting in the critically-acclaimed mystery thriller The Priests. Her role as a possessed high school student won her multiple Best New Actress nods.

Park So-dam is reported to be joining the cast for an upcoming drama in 2019, called Parasite. The drama will be directed by director BONG Joon-ho, and has locked down its main cast. “No parasites appear in this movie. It’ll be neither a horror nor Sci-fi. It’ll be a family drama which revolves around various characters and strange kinds of families.” the director said. Besides Song Kang-ho, who was cast earlier, Lee Sun-kyun, Jo Yeo-jeong, Park So-dam, Choi Woo-shik and Jang Hye-jin have been confirmed to be part of the cast.

The drama will tell the stories of two families. One of the two fathers is Song Kang-ho with his son played by Choi Woo-shik, who starred in BONG’s fantasy drama Okja, and his daughter played by Park So-dam. Appearing in films like Secret Sunshine (2007), The World of Us (2016) and Yongsoon (2017), Jang Hye-jin was cast to play Song’s wife. The other father will be played by Lee Sun-kyun, while Jo Yeo-jeong will play his wife. Their teenage daughter and young son will be selected through auditions. The movie is expected to feature a great ensemble of various actors and actresses.

This is Bong’s seventh feature film, and his first Korean film in 10 years after Mother (2009). It will start shooting sometime this year and be released in 2019.
