K-Pop Girl Groups Whose Friendships Are Lasting Even After Disbandment: Hello Venus, Sistar, 2NE1, etc.

The next girl group is 2NE1, and, surely, everyone knows who 2NE1 is! The girl-group was formed by YG Entertainment and consisted of Sandara, CL, Park Bom, and Minzy. They debuted on May 6, 2009, with the single Fire and its associated music video, but on March 27, 2009, before their official debut, they did a commercial single with BIG BANG, titled “Lollipop“, advertising for a smartphone brand. The commercial single was not promoted, but it managed to reach number one on various online charts and wasn’t considered as a debut song.

The debut song Fire entered at the top place on various charts and collected their first music station awards on Inkigayo. Fire was the first mini-album and promoted with the song “I Don’t Care”, which won various end-of-the-year music station awards.

The group went on hiatus after the release and did a promotion, I Don’t Care. The members promoted their own solo songs. Dara went on to promote her song Kiss, Park Bom promoted You & I, and CL and Minzy released Please Don’t Go. Each of the songs achieved various levels of success, with You & I topping many online charts and winning various awards.

2NE1 released their next single on February 9, 2010, Follow Me. And, again, their song became the number one for the week it was released on Gaon Chart and sold more than one and a half million downloads, total. In the next year, they scored nine number-one hits on the Gaon Digital Chart, including the songs Try to Follow Me, Ugly, Go Away, I Love You, Fall Love, Missing You, and the two popular songs are I Am the Best and Come Back Home.

In 2015, YG give opportunities for members to work outside the group, like Sandara, who started to develop her acting skills and filling on various TV programs. Then CL made her debut and promoted in the USA. Minzy built a school for dance, ‘Millennium Dance Academy’. Because they were given that freedom, their only group activity was to appear and perform at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2015. It was their last performance before the group disbanded. Here is their last performance!

On April 5, 2016, 2NE1 had to lose their youngest member, who suddenly wanted to peruse a solo career at another agency, even though their contract would expire in May. The member’s health condition wasn’t good because of Minzy’s news, and, also, Park Bom was having problems with dangerous drugs. This made YG Entertainment finally support 2NE1’s decision to disband. The group officially disbanded on November 24, 2017, but before they declared themselves disbanded, they released one last song and music video, ‘Goodbye”.

WA$$UP is a K-Pop girl group that formed by the Mafia Records label and produced by Sony Music. They first debut on August 7, 2013, and they also released their first music video. ‘WA$$UP’ was a debut song, which they first performed on MBC Show Champion. This group had a sexy concept with dancehall music. Their music video had to be removed by YouTube, for copyright issues. The same year, they released their first single, Hotter Than A Summer, which was a reggae number.

They ended up losing three of the original seven members. The remaining members were Nari, Jiae, Woojoo, and Sujin, but the group’s career was no longer viable and they were declared disbanded on February 7 2017. This is because the members didn’t renew their contracts with the agency, and they always got a decrease due to intense competition.

The last group declared disbanded was formed by CJ E&M through Mnet’s ‘Produce 101’ survival show. This group consisted of 11 members from various agencies, they were Kim Chung-ha, Lim Na-young, Jung Chae-yeon, Zhou Jieqiong, Kim So-hye, Yoo Yeon-jung, Kang Min-na, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim So-hye, Kim Do-yeon, and Jeon Somi. They debuted on May 4, 2016, with the EP ‘Chrysalis‘.

I.O.I had a sub-unit group and made up of the YMC Entertainment artists, Lim Na-young, Chungha, Zhou Jieqiong, Kim So-hye, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Do-yeon, and Jeon Somi, who put out the single Whatta Man. Their concept (sub-unit) wasn’t the same as that for the main group. I.O.I didn’t cute concepts but were bolder, sexier, and more elegant. This concept really got the fans’ attention, and they looked more mature.

One of I.O.I’s popular songs is ‘Very Very Very’. The song got its first win on Show Champion on October 26, 2016. I.O.I only had a two-year contract. Before their disbandment, they did promote in every television station. For example, they became guest stars on Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend, Yang and Nam Show, and the Knowing Brother program. From January 20-22, 2017, they held their last concert, “Time Slip – I.O.I”. The concert was held at Jangchung Gymnasium, where the group held their debut showcase. I.O.I officially disbanded on January 31, 2017.

But, reportedly, they will be back at the end of 2019, although not in full formation. So be patient until then!
