True Beauty: Drama Review

True Beauty is a K-drama adapted from a webtoon with the same title. The story follows Lim Ju-kyung who has low self-esteem due to her inferiority complex. Since she was younger, she was bullied because society thought that she didn’t look as ‘beautiful’ as the standards. One day, Jukyung was sick of the bullying and decided to commit suicide.

Luckily, Lee Su-ho saved her life. Their encounter was pure coincidence, but then they met again in the same high school. In her new school, Jukyung was transferred into an ‘angel’ after she started to wear makeup to increase her confidence.

Jukyung started to make friends with everyone, even with Suho. As time went by, Jukyung and Suho developed feelings for each other. Problems filled their school life when Suho’s childhood friend Soojin has feelings for him, then Suho’s ex-friend Seojun has a crush on Jukyung, and people start to know the truth behind Jukyung’s makeup appearance!

True Beauty’s Finale Episode: The End of the Triangle Love Story!

True Beauty’s last episode wrapped up everything between Suho-Jukyung-Seojun’s love story and how Jukyung will eventually deal with her confidence, even without makeup! After Suho stayed in America, Jukyung still keeps in touch with him until the long-distance-relationship became very hard for them.

To forget her feelings for Suho, Jukyung spent her days at makeup school and hanging out with friends, including Seojun. She was learned that Seojun likes her after his confession.

SPOILER ALERT: Jukyung eventually ended up with Suho. Even though Seojun tried his best to win her heart, Jukyung’s feelings remained the same for Suho. Jukyung’s relationship with Soojin also became better since she expressed her apology towards Jukyung.

Well, True Beauty is highly recommended since the plot is pretty light and interesting with those makeup-related things! And, if you’re looking for a romance-comedy K-drama, this drama belongs to you!

Let’s Get Acquainted With True Beauty‘s Main Cast!

Moon Ga-young as Lim Ju-kyung

Lim Ju-kyung is a cheerful and kind person, but she has a lack of confidence because she got bullied. She started to practice makeup to boost her self-esteem, and she has feelings for Suho but never confessed.

Cha Eun-woo as Lee Su-ho

Lee Su-ho is a smart and cool-hearted guy. He rarely spoke to anyone except Soojin, his close friend. Since the day he met Jukyung, Suho was very kind to her and developed feelings for her as well.

Hwang In-yeop as Han Seo-jun

Han Seo-jun is a playful guy with lots of friends. He was Suho’s best friend, but they got into a ‘cold war’ ever since the death of their friends. Seojun also had a crush on Jukyung, and he’s always been there for her.

Park Yoo-na as Kang Soo-jin

Kang Soo-jin is a clever girl and one of Jukyung’s close friends in the new school. However, their relationship was broken when Soo-jin found out that Jukyung and Suho like each other.

The Comparison Between True Beauty’s Webtoon and Drama Version

Although True Beauty was based on a Webtoon series, it wasn’t meant that the whole plot would be the same. Instead, they have some differences between the drama and the Webtoon version. Check out some of the comparisons here:

Jukyung’s Boyfriend

Her first boyfriend wasn’t Suho, it was Seojun! After Suho left South Korea, Jukyung became even close with Seojun until both of them realized their feelings and started to date.

Kang Soo-jin’s Character

On Webtoon, Soojin’s character wasn’t as bad as the drama. She was a popular girl who was envious of Jukyung, and she wasn’t Suho’s childhood friend who had a crush on him.

How Jukyung Reveals Her ‘No Makeup’ Appearances

In the drama, Jukyung’s bare face was secretly spread by Soojin, and it was accidentally exposed in front of Jukyung’s closest friends Sua and Chae-rin.

Jukyung and Suho’s First Encounter

They met for the first time in the bookstore, not when Suho accidentally saved Jukyung when she tried to commit suicide.
