10 Reasons Why You Should Watch The Producers

1. Senior actors and junior actors’ chemistry

Even though Cha Tae-hyun and Gong Hyo-jin are from a different generation with Kim Soo-hyun and IU, the four of them could still act well and played their characters naturally. Compared to the senior actor and actress, IU and Kim Soo-hyun could balance the brilliant acting of Cha Tae-hyun and Gong Hyo-jin.

Even when IU’s and Gong Hyo-jin’s characters don’t like each other, just the same as Kim Soo-hyun’s and Cha Tae-hyun’s characters, all of them still manage to show their acting skills without minding the senior-junior gap.

Let’s take a look at the scene where the four of them play the ‘Of Course’ game in PD Ye-jin’s house.

2. This drama will teach you a lot about the broadcasting field

Of course, you will always learn something when you watch a drama that has a theme of some occupations. For example, if you watch a drama about a lawyer you will learn something about the law and stuff, just like when you watch a drama about doctors, you will learn something about the field of medicine.

And here, in The Producers, you will learn something about how the producers do the work in the entertainment industry. How hard it is to maintain their show’s rating in order to survive, and what kind of strategies they have to use for gaining viewers. For example, in one of the scenes of The Producers, where PD Joon-mo is asking JYP to invite Suzy as a guest on his show, even though it is a joke in the drama, but in reality it is exactly like that as well.

And sometimes it is something that we can’t laugh at, as a producer. So if you have a dream to be a producer or to work in the broadcasting industry, or you are just simply amazed by the Korean broadcasting industry, you should definitely give this drama a try!

Plus, you’ll get a chance to take a look inside KBS’ building, especially the variety department. Isn’t that amazing?

3. Romance line between the characters

Not only the chemistry between the actors and actresses but also the romance lines between them are also interesting to watch. You will find it hard to choose which pair you want to ship.

The romance between PD Ye-jin and PD Joon-mo as childhood friends until they become adults, you can see clearly when PD Joon-mo gets jealous when Seung-chan starts getting close with PD Ye-jin. They often get into fights just like a married couple.

Or if you like noona romance (a romance between an older woman and younger guy), you may like the romance line between PD Ye-jin and Seung-chan. Even though he is a younger man, Seung-chan always takes care of PD Ye-jin and follows her around. He also sings “Because You’re My Woman” in karaoke for PD Ye-jin.

But truthfully, Seung-chan’s action is a bit annoying to watch if you’re a shipper of Cindy and Seung-chan. He seems to only care about PD Ye-jin and ignores Cindy’s feeling.

Cindy, who is a cold-hearted woman slowly turns soft when she’s with Seung-chan. But sometimes he just can’t see her. It’s too sad to see, but their moments are cute!

4. Definitely worth watching for 2 Days 1 Night fans

If you enjoy watching 2 Days 1 Night, then you will be enjoying this drama as well. As we all know, PD Joon-mo who is portrayed by Cha Tae-hyun is part of the regular cast of 2 Days 1 Night.

When the drama was still ongoing, people on the set of the 2 Days 1 Night reality show liked to make fun of Cha Tae-hyun as the head producer of that show on The Producers. They also wanted IU to be invited as a guest on 2 Days 1 Night.

Jung Joon-young, who is also a regular cast and is popular as the ace of the show, suddenly became good to Cha Tae-hyun since he’s a fan of IU. Other members also gave Cha Tae-hyun special treatment for that reason too.

PD Yoo Ho-jin, who was head producer of 2 Days 1 Night when the drama aired in 2015 also appeared as a cameo to talk about what’s it like to be a producer.

5. IU and Kim Soo-hyun reunite

Back in 2011, IU and Kim Soo-hyun starred in the drama Dream High that also aired on KBS2. But unlike Cindy’s and Seung-chan’s characters, IU and Kim Soo-hyun played characters that don’t have a romance line between each other.

IU played a character named Kim Pil-sook, who falls in love with Jason, who is portrayed by 2PM’s Woo-young. While Kim Soo-hyun portrayed Song Sam-dong, the clumsy guy that fell in love with Suzy’s character. Come to think of it, Song Sam-dong’s character is very similar to Baek Seung-chan.

Let’s take a look at their moments, back in Dream High!

6. Kim Jong-kook from Running Man starred as a cast member

An interesting fact of the drama, that will make you curious to watch it is that Kim Jong-kook, who is originally a singer also appeared in the drama. He had a supporting role in The Producers, and he is also a regular cast of Running Man, which is the rival show of 2 Days 1 Night.

As a singer, he actually has quite good acting skills. He portrayed Kim Hong-soon, a long time producer in KBS that likes to gossip around with Kim Tae-ho, the senior producer.

He also gets involved with Ko Yang-mi, the stingy secretary that always makes everyone upsets. But then they have a secret romance and even secretly kiss in the office.

7. Kim Soo-hyun kisses all the main characters

Not only the female main characters, Gong Hyo-jin and IU, but Kim Soo-hyun’s character (Baek Seung-chan) also kisses Cha Tae-hyun! Seung-chan does that while being drunk and suddenly kisses PD Joon-mo, who at the time helps him to get back home after they drink together with PD Ye-jin. Let’s see all the kiss scenes of Baek Seung-chan in The Producers!

When Seung-chan kisses PD Ye-jin.

When Cindy kisses Seung-chan.

When Seung-chan kisses PD Joon-mo when he is drunk.

8. Mockumentary in Every Episode

Only in this drama, you will be able to watch an ‘interview’ of some characters in certain situations. Just like a reality show, after some situations, the character explains how she or he feels or explains what is going on from their point of view.

It’s really rare to see this moment in any drama, but if we think about it, it’s normal in The Producers since it is a drama about producers’ life. Especially producers of a variety program.

9. Celebrities as cameos

Celebrities that appear as cameos mostly portray themselves. Just like at any normal broadcasting company, as a worker, you’ll get a chance to see a lot of celebrities at your workplace.

For example, we can see a scene where PD Kim Tae-ho and the rookie producers eat at the KBS cafeteria, and they meet TaeTiSeo, a sub-unit of Girls’ Generation, that have also come by to eat lunch.

Or Sandara ex-2ne1, WINNER’s Seung-yoon, actor Kim Min-jae, Blackpink’s Ji-soo that was a trainee back then, and Boyfriend’s Minwoo that appear as themselves when they become regular cast members of 2 Days 1 Night.

But besides that, there are also some celebrities that appear as another person. For example when Roy Kim and Jung Joon-young portrayed Cindy’s haters.

10. Cindy’s character

Just simply seeing Cindy’s character development will make you fall in love with The Producers. Compared to the other characters, Cindy’s character is the only one that shows a lot of development from the beginning of the episode until the end.

In this drama, we can see how Cindy’s fussy and annoying character starts to change slowly but surely in every episode. Her plot line with Byun Entertainment’s CEO, the one that makes her name big is also interesting to watch. Later we get to see Cindy’s background story, who lost her parents in a car accident when they wanted to see her performance after she debuted.

We can also see the soft side of Cindy, for example, when she turns out to be a type of person that likes to tidy up and organize everything, or when she gets drunk she talks about her debut days when she was 13 years old over and over again.

Even though Cindy has a bad temper, she is a type of character that we can empathize with.

Moreover, IU once said in an interview that she has admitted that Cindy’s character, that always gets angry with her manager, is quite like her in real life. It’s not like she is actually like Cindy in general, but sometimes, as a human, when she can’t hold in her anger, she gets into a discussion with her manager and even has even thrown something at him once.

Let’s see a short clip of Cindy’s scene in The Producers.
