1970’s Background Story Sneak Peak
It all started with three students who were popular at their university especially with the female students. They were In Ha (played by Jang Geun Seuk), who is majoring in art, and his two friends, Dongwook (played by Kim Shi Hoo), a medical student, and Chang Mo (played by Seo In Guk). The three young men enjoy playing music and singing together.
One day, while walking around on campus, In Ha passes a female student named Yoon Hee (played by Yoona) and fell in love with her at first sight. Later on, he sees her sitting on a bench. He begins painting her portrait, but the next moment she disappears. In Ha runs to find her, and from the excitement he finally bumped into Yoon Hee. She drops everything she was carrying and In Ha helped her to pick it all up, but didn’t say a single words to her.
After Yoon Hee leaves, In Ha found her diary, which she had accidentally left behind. That night, in his dorm, he opens the diary and began to read it. In Ha learns that her parents have died and she loves the America movie ‘Love Story’. He does seem to have some some guilt over his invasionof her privacy, and quickly puts the book away.
The next day, In Ha is waiting for her outside the campus and moping around. He’s still debating what he should do with the diary when Yoon Hee finds him and asks him if he has seen her notebook. In Ha hesitates and doesn’t speak up, so she thinks that he’s busy and probably doesn’t have it. When he was about to go after Yoon Hee, his friend calls him.
That night, In Ha starts reading her diary again, wanting to know everything about her. It leads him to buy two tickets for one of Yoon Hee’s favorite movies, ‘Love Story’, he then went to the library to check a book called ‘The Little Prince’, which is Yoon Hee’s father’s favorite book.
As h’s looking through the bookshelves, In Ha meets Yoon Hee’s eyes and they give each other a glance from the two different sides of the shelf. He gets flustered and tries to walk away, but then bumped into a librarian. Yoon Hee then came around the shelf and helped them to put the books back in order.
The librarian asks if ‘The Little Prince’ book is his. Yoon Hee perks up to see the book, while In Ha is too embarrassed to admit it’s his so he just walks away. She was confused and starts to walk away as well, then her friend Na In Sook came and asks if she knows who she was talking to. Yoon Hee, of course, knows nothing about In Ha.
It’s raining heavily outside as In Ha leaves the library, and he spots Yoon Hee standing there. After bowing to each other awkwardly and a brief of silence, he tells her to wait while he rushes back inside to find an umbrella. In Ha manage to find one, but, sadly, it was broken and would only open a little bit.
In Ha, of course, wont let this moment go just like that, he manually opens up the umbrella enough for Yoon Hee and tells her to get under it. She smiles and take his over, they leave but half of In Ha’s body gets soaked because of the rain.
While walking, Yoon Hee brings up the fiancee topic, but In Ha insists that he doesn’t have one. She notices that his shoulder is wet due to the rain and tries to move the umbrella towards him. In Ha assures her that he’s fine but Yoon Hee still feels bad about it, so she tells him that he should get closer so the umbrella can cover both of them more.
They keep walking together and In Ha doesn’t seem to care anymore that his body is all wet from the rain. She asked if In Ha loves rain and he answers yes, because he get sad but happy at the same time from it. Hearing the answer, Yoon Hee smiles and says that she feels the same way, they also began to talk about ‘The Little Prince’.
All of the sudden a car drives past them and In Ha immediately reacts and blocks the incoming water splash with his body. He then tells Yoon Hee that he has to go to somewhere else. Before leaving, Yoon Hee stops him and asks when she should return the umbrella. In Ha answers with courage and asks if she’s free on Sunday to watch ‘Love Story’ with him, Yoon Hee smiles tenderly and agreed. After getting the answer, In Ha leaves, while celebrating it in the rain by himself.
