From I.O.I To DIA, Here Is The Story of Jung Chae-yeon’s Journey as a Member of a Girl Group

They went right away to learn the opening theme song, ‘Pick Me’, each trainee from the different classes had to record themselves while dancing and singing to ‘Pick Me’. If they had an improvement, their class would be upgraded.

And here is Chaeyeon’s individual evaluation video of ‘Pick Me’:

After doing the ‘Pick Me’ evaluation, Produce 101 started the competition by doing a group evaluation, where all trainees were be divided into different groups and had to choose a song to cover. Chaeyeon was in group 2, where they were covering SNSD’s ‘Into the New World’.

From there, Chaeyeon’s popularity increased because of her legendary ending scene. As a result, a new trend was created by her, which was called ‘Ending Fairy’. From this battle, Chaeyeon’s team won against group 1.

On the 7th episode, there was another battle, called ‘Position Evaluation’. Chaeyeon, along with Pinky (Kyulkyung) and Sohye, performed Sunmi’s song, ‘Full Moon’, whihch was released back in 2014. The three of them performed the song perfectly, and again Chaeyeon’s beauty struck the audience.

During episode 10, the last battle was the ‘Concept Evaluation’. This time, she and her groupmate performed an original Produce 101 song called ‘Yum Yum’, which gained a lot of attention from the public.

In the final episode, Chaeyeon’s name was called by the MC which means that she was selected as one of the members of IOI. She get the 7th position at the last ranking, with a total of 215,338 votes.

Debuting As an I.O.I Member

Chaeyeon’s project, debuting with IOI, started around May 26, 2016, with their first debut extended play (EP), Chrysalis, and a title track called ‘Dream Girls’. Their first debut stage performance was on M! Countdown.

A week after IOI debuted stage, MBK Entertainment informed the public that Chaeyeon will return back to DIA for their upcoming comeback stage. This would keep her from being able to participate and perform for another comeback of IOI. This also applied to Sejeong, Mina, and Yeonjung.

But later, Chaeyeon and the other three girls re-joined IOI and came back again with another album, called ‘Miss Me?’, on October 17, 2016. The album featured the title track ‘Very Very Very’, which was produced by Baro of B1A4 and JYP. This was IOI’s first comeback with its full membership.

Later on, IOI announced through YMC Entertainment that they will be disbanded on January 31, 2017. Before the official disbandment, IOI held their last concer,t called ‘Time Slip – IOI’ that was held in Jangchun Gymnasium from January 20-22, 2017.

IOI’s last album would include various producers and songwriters, including B1A4’s Jinyoung. On January 17, 2017, the title track name was announced by YMC Entertainment and was called ‘Downpour’. The co-producer and songwriter of this song was Seventeen’s Woozi. This ballad was personally chosen by all 11 members of IOI, including Chaeyeon. The digital single with the music video released the next day at midnight.
