Produce 101 Season 2

Joo Hak-nyeon becomes a contestant on Mnet’s survival show; Produce 101 Season 2 which held the first broadcast on April 7, 2017. He went on a grade F while he joined the survival show and, unfortunately, didn’t make into the final to be one of the top 11 contestants who debuted as  Wanna One.

Joo Hak-yeon performed Open Up (열어줘) on Episode 9, which is aired on June 2, 2017. He was teamed up with Kang Daniel, Kang Dong-ho, Kim Yong-guk, Takada Kenta, Yoo Seon-ho, and Im Young-min. The group had a result of at least 20.000 votes for each member, and earned a chance to perform on M! Countdown on June 8, 2017.

On June 16, 2017, Joo Hak-nyeon performed Hands On Me, for which he was teamed up with Kim Jae-hwan, Kang Daniel, Ong Seong-woo, Bae Jin-young, Hwang Min-hyun, Jung Se-woon, Yoon Ji-sung, Park Woo-jin and Park Ji-hoon.

Joo Hak-nyeon was one of the contestants with the most votes on the 1st episode, and had a position in the top 4, after Park Ji-hoon at #1 rank, Jang Moon-bok at #2 rank, Lee Dae-hwi at #3 rank.

On the 9th episode, he again was one of the top contestants, in terms of votes, placing at #3 with 20.071 votes, after Kang Daniel in the #1 rank with 100.205 votes, and Kang Dong-ho in the #2 position, with 20.078 votes.

A lot of fans were sorry when Joo Hak-nyeon was eliminated and didn’t make it to the final. All the same, it didn’t stop his journey to become an idol and find another path, as he came back to his agency, Cre.ker Entertainment, and prepared for his debut later.

When he was one of the contestants on Produce 101 season 2, one of the things that got him attention from the viewers and fans was that he seemed greedy and was making mistakes on stage.

Viewers were pretty uncomfortable about Joo Hak-nyeon’s attitude while he was practicing for Never. He was moved into the Open team and removed Takada Kenta’s position from being the center of the team, as he was voted to be a center. After that, he seemed to have trouble following the choreography and the other fellow, Kang Dong-ho, had to tutor him just to make sure he could sing his part properly.

The group has finally had a meeting after being evaluated by the producers since the result wasn’t what they hoped. Joo Hak-nyeon kept making mistakes with the dancing and Kang Daniel pointed out that he had a serious problem since he was a center of the group. Kang Dong-ho had a similar reaction. He agreed that Joo Hak-nyeon hadn’t improved, while they needed to perform within 3 days. Takada Kenta also said that Joo Hak-nyeon didn’t practice enough since he kept missing the choreography.

Joo Hak-nyeon had some attitude about his stage performances. He always said that he did well, even though he made the most mistakes among the group’s members, and the viewers were shocked at the way he talked about himself and his performance.

These pictures show one of the mistakes Joo Hak-nyeon made during his performance on stage, which made the viewers so frustrated:

During the performance, Joo Hak-nyeon definitely blocked the center of the group, who had been changed to Kim Yong-guk. The left one is a picture of their practice, while the one on the right is the group’s actual performance on stage. You can clearly see that Joo Hak-nyeonk is standing right in front of Kim Yong-guk and blocking his spot as the center.

The gif below shows a different view of the choreography where Joo Hak-nyeon made a mistake while dancing.

Joo Hak-nyeon is supposed to be moving his hands the same way Kang Daniel moves his , but he did it in another way.

He also stretched his hand and placed his left hand on his hip in an incorrect move, and a little bit offbeat.

Joo Hak-nyeon made another mistake when he passed by the center as he did his own part, and it was captured by the camera.

Many viewers were disappointed with Joo Hak-nyeon’s performance, as he kept making mistakes every time he teamed up to perform on stage. He had a similar problem with one of the other contestants, Hong Eun-ki, for which he ended up being attacked by his fans.

Joo Hak-nyeon didn’t make a great performance. When he should be performing with charisma and serious stage presence, he did it by smiling all over and even blowing a kiss, which wasn’t a concept of the performance at all. He was also accused of having a greedy attitude since he really wanted to be the center of the group even though he was still lacking talent and didn’t take enough time to practice the dance moves.

Debut with The Boyz

After participating on Produce 101 season 2, Joo Hak-nyeon went back on his agency, Cre.ker Entertainment and he started preparing to make his debut with a new boy-group.

In July 2017, Cre.Ker Entertainment announced their upcoming boy-group by releasing the individual members’ pictures, starting on July 17.

The teaser showed up for Joo Hak-nyeon, and described his profile as he was swimming on a bright, sunny day.

On July 23, 2017, Cre.ker Entertainment continued its introduction to the upcoming boy-group by releasing a Dazed magazine video which showed the members, as well.

The Boyz made their debut on December 6, 2017, with 12 members, Joo Hak-nyeon, Sang-yeon, Jacob, Young-hoon, Hyun-jae, Ju-yeon, Kevin, New, Q, Hwall, Sun-woo and Eric.
