FIESTAR is the first girl group that we will discuss as a girl group that needs more attention from the public. FIESTAR is a girl group that debuted in 2012 under Kakao M. FIESTAR officially debuted on August 31st, 2012, with the single album Vista and six members: Cao Lu, Jei, Linzy, Hyemi, Czech, and Yezi to critical acclaim and commercial success.

Debuting with the song “Vista” made the name FIESTAR famous at that time because it had a very unique concept and the type of song so that many people were curious to find out more about FIESTAR. However, on March 20th, 2014, member Cheska officially left the group. In 2018, none FIESTAR member renewed their contract with the agency and decided to focus on their respective solo careers.

RANIA

RANIA, or previously known as BP RANIA (Black Pearl Rania), is a girl group that debuted in 2011 formed by DR Music, created by American producer Teddy Riley. RANIA members are, Yina, Lucy, Rico, Joy, Di, T-ae, Xia, and Sarah. However, in early 2011, before they debuted, Sarah decided to leave RANIA and was replaced by Yijo. But Yijo left the group because of issues with her working visa. In April 2011, they performed on KBS’ Music Bank, with the title track “Dr. Feel Good,” however, their debut was surrounded with controversy because they had a concept that was too provocative so they eventually had to change their choreography.

After releasing the song “Time to Rock Da Show” in November 2011, Joy suddenly went on hiatus at this time. Soon afterward, DR Music announced Rico’s departure. DR Music later added a new member, Sharon Park. In January 2015, Joyi went on hiatus. In April 2015, Sharon Park left the group to focus on her modeling career. In July 2015, RANIA made their appearance with two new members, the trainees Seulji and Hyeme. In October 2015, the group announced their comeback as a six-member group on November 6th with their third EP Demonstrate.

In June 2017, Yina posted an Instagram post that she was leaving BP RANIA. The agency later confirmed that Yina had decided to focus on her acting career. In May 2018, DR Music announced the departure of Yumin from the group and also said that the group would have a comeback in June releasing the album Best Of in August. In June 2018, it was announced that a new member named Namfon had joined the group. Following the discovery of every remaining member of the group having been removed from RANIA from their social media accounts and following a number of members, rumors began to circulate that DR Music was a bankrupt company and was unable to continue operations, resulting in unofficial disbandment.

NINE MUSES

NINE MUSES was a South Korean girl group formed by Star Empire Entertainment in 2010 with an admissions and graduation concept. The group debuted by releasing the album Let’s Have a Party. In 2010 Jaekyung withdrew from Nine Muses to focus on her modeling career and was replaced by Hyuna. In January 2011, it was announced that members Bini, Rana, and Euaerin would leave Nine Muses to pursue other venues and that they would not receive replacements. However, three months later, Euaerin re-joined the group. The group returned as a seven-member group with the release of their digital single Figaro. Star Empire Entertainment announced the group’s comeback as a group with only seven members. A month later, the company confirmed that the group name was not changing, because they would add two new members to the future group, once again making a nine-member group.

The name NINE MUSES became famous after releasing the song “Dolls” in January 2013 and “Glue” in 2013. With a sexy concept and a very ear-catching song, NINE MUSES succeeded in increasing their popularity at that time. Previously, in 2012, Star Empire added one member, Sungah. On January 29th, 2014, Star Empire Entertainment announced that Lee Sem and Eunji had graduated from the group, but would still manage their careers. On June 23rd, 2014, the company announced that Sera’s exclusive contract had expired and that she had decided to leave NINE MUSES.

In 2015, NINE MUSES made a comeback with the release of the song “Hurt Locker” with the formation of Kyungri, Hyemi, Minha, Euaerin, Sojin, Sungah, Keumjo, and Hyuna. With the song, NINE MUSES managed to increase their popularity and occupy the highest position on several South Korean charts. In June 2016, Minha and Euaerin graduated from the group following the expiration of their contract and Star Empire made subunits with Kyungri, Hyemi, Sojin, and Keumjo for a summer comeback with NINE MUSES A. On February 10th, 2019, Star Empire released the official statement on NINE MUSES that the group fan cafe would be disbanded.

HELLO VENUS

Hello Venus is a girl group formed by Tricell Media in 2012. Hello Venus debuted with the release of the single “Venus.” In July 2014, Fantagio and Pledis ended their Tricell Media joint ventures. Yooara and Yoonjo remained under Pledis, with the other four members continuing their group activities under Fantagio. In October 2014, Fantagio introduced two new members: Seoyoung and Yeoreum. Tricell Media was originally a joint venture between Pledis Entertainment and Fantagio. The group was originally a six-member line-up, Alice, Nara, YooAra, Yoonjo, Lime, and Yooyoung.

In July 2014, via Hello Venus’ official Daum café it was announced that Pledis and Fantagio had decided to terminate the Hello Venus project. Alice, Nara, Lime, and Yooyoung will continue to promote as Hello Venus, while Yoo Ara and Yoonjo will return to Pledis, pursuing careers in acting and continuing their careers in music. In 2015, the name Hello Venus began to be sought after a comeback with the release of the song “Wiggle Wiggle.” “Wiggle Wiggle” is a song with a colorful and sexy concept. On April 26th, 2019, it was confirmed that the group will disband after the members’ contracts expire.

SPICA

Spica is a girl group that debuted in 2012 under B2M Entertainment. The group consists of Kim Boa, Park Sihyun, Park Narae, Yang Jiwon, and Kim Bohyung. Spica debuted with the release of the single “Doggedly.” After debuting, Spica did not receive much attention from the public which caused their popularity at that time to be very low. In August 2014, Spica made a comeback with the release of the single “Tonight” which had a very interesting concept and music video. With the song “Tonight,” Spica was able to increase their popularity and receive a lot of praise from the public. On February 6th, 2017, CJ E&M announced that the group had been banded, and the members would be going their separate ways. On February 8th, 2017, the group posted a letter on Instagram, confirming that they would return again in the future.

DAL SHABET

Dal Shabet is a girl group that debuted in 2011 under the E-Tribe under Dreamcatcher Company. Dal Shabet debuted with six members: Viki, Serri, Ah Young, Jiyul, Kaeun, and Subin. Member Viki officially left the group in May 2012 and was replaced by Woohee, while members Jiyul and Kaeun left in December 2015. Dal Shabet debuted with “Supa Dupa Diva” and topped many real-time charts and music station charts for the majority of its promotional period.

Dal Shabet is famous for releasing several popular songs, such as “Pink Rocket,” “Bling Bling,” “Hit U,” “Mr. Bang Bang,” “Be Ambitious” (Look At My Legs), “B.B.B” (Big Baby Baby), and “Joker” have all charted in the top twenty of the Gaon Digital Chart. Unfortunately, Dal Shabet did not have high popularity and lacked public attention, even though Dal Shabet had a unique musical concept. In December 2017, Happy Face Entertainment announced that members Serri, Subin, and Ah Young’s contracts had expired and they want to focus on their own careers. In 2018, the group disbanded.

SUNNY HILL

Sunny Hill is a girl group that debuted in 2007 under For Everyone Media. The group consists of Bitna, Kota, Eunju, and Geonhee. Previously, Sunny Hill debuted as a co-ed group consisting of members Janghyun, Jubi, and Seung Ah. Their first release was the single album Love Letter, but the group then had a musical hiatus, and only released various songs for films and drama soundtracks. Sunny Hill was unexpectedly changed to the Nega Network and introduced a new member City to the group. Sunny Hill was quickly into their first project under Nega Network by featuring on Narsha’s digital single “Mamma Mia.” Janghyun did not vocally participate in the track but was featured in the music video. In 2011, Sunny Hill changed to LOEN Entertainment.

In June 2013, Sunny Hill made a comeback with their third extended play, Young Folk. On January 17th, LOEN announced that Sunny Hill would be returning as a co-ed group with their third digital single “Don’t Say Anything.” It was announced that this would be Janghyun’s last participation with the group before leaving to pursue his career as a producer. On August 18th, 2017, LOEN Entertainment released a statement announcing that Sunny Hill had left the label and will continue as a group elsewhere. On April 25th, 2019, the group announced it had signed with BOD Entertainment. In addition, two new members joined the group; Eunju and Geonhee.

BRAVE GIRLS

Brave Girls is a South Korean girl group formed by the producer Brave Brothers of Brave Entertainment in 2011. Brave Girls debuted with the release of the songs “So Sexy” and “Do You Know” with the formation of members Eunyoung, Hyeran, Yejin, Yoojin, and SeoA. In February 2014, Brave Brothers reported to be working on a full-length album for the group, but the album was put on hold indefinitely due to its working with AOA. Brave Girls remained inactive for the following two years.

In February 2016, after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, it was announced that Brave Girls would be making a comeback with Deepened with new members, Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, Yuna and Hayun, and original members Yoojin and Hyeran. And in June 2016, Brave Girls made a comeback with the release of the song “High Heels” and their popularity began to increase. On January 13th, 2017, it was announced that Yoojin had departed from the group to focus on her education and Hayun would be taking a temporary leave from the group due to health issues. The remaining members continued as a group, releasing their fourth mini-album Rollin’ in March.

On August 11th, 2018, Brave Girls released “Rollin'” (New Version), which marked their first comeback as four members. Shortly before the song’s release, Brave Entertainment announced that member Hayun would not participate because she is on a hiatus due to health issues. Brave Girls is still on hiatus until now.

JEWELRY

Jewelry is one of the most legendary girl groups; they debuted in 2001 under Star Empire Entertainment. Jewelry was the longest-running Korean girl group. Jewelry founding members Park Jung-ah, Lee Ji-hyun, Jun Eun-mi, and Jung Yoo-jin debuted in 2001 with their first album Discovery. After less-than-stellar sales of the first album, Jun Eun-mi and Jung Yoo-jin were replaced by Seo In-young and Cho Min-ah.

In early 2008, Jewelry returned to the music scene with their new members Baby J and Eunjung with the release of their fifth album, Kitchi Island. On January 18th, 2011, Kim Ye-won joined Jewelry and they made a comeback with the release of Back It Up. Jewelry announced their comeback with their first mini-album Look At Me. In March 2013, Eunjung left Jewelry. And in November 2014, Baby J also left Jewelry, also revealed that Semi would not renew her contract after it expired within a month. In 2015, Jewelry was declared disbanded. Many people are disappointed because Jewelry is one of the girl groups that has had a career for 14 years, but did not get enough public attention.

THE ARK

The Ark is a female vocal group from South Korea formed by Music K Entertainment. There are 5 members, Jeon Minju as the leader, Yuna Kim, Jung Yujin, Lee Halla, and Cheon Jane. The Ark debuted in 2015 with the release of the song “The Light” which has a very deep meaning. With their debut, The Ark received attention from the public, but it did not last long.

In July 2016, after rumors that The Ark was dissolved, Music K Entertainment announced that Yuna Kim and Minju had left The Ark and Music K Entertainment since the previous two months. Finally, in 2016 The Ark was declared disbanded. It’s a pity, because the Ark had just debuted one year ago and got a lot of attention, but it wasn’t treated well.
