Gina Jane Choi, well known as G.NA, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actress based in South Korea. She was born on September 13th, 1987, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She graduated from Fraser Heights Secondary School in Surrey, British Columbia. She moved to South Korea to pursue her dream to be a singer in 2005 when she was about 18 years old.

G.NA was originally set to debut as the leader of the girl group Five Girls under Good Entertainment. However, the group disbanded shortly before their scheduled debut in 2007 due to Good Entertainment’s financial troubles and the members all left for separate Korean entertainment agencies, and G.NA debuted as a solo artist under Cube Entertainment.

I’ll Get Lost, You Go Your Way

Debuting spectacularly on July 14th, 2010, with the track “I’ll Back Off So You Can Live Better,” G.NA rocked the K-Pop world, rekindling a love for solo artists and R&B. Prior to her debut, G.NA released her digital single “What I Want to Do When I Have a Lover” ft Rain. Then on July 14th, 2010, she officially debuted by releasing her EP Draw G’s First Breath and the first single from her EP “I’ll Back Off So You Can Live Better” ft. B2ST’s Junhyung.

“I’ll Back Off So You Can Live Better” is a ballad with powerful vocal and dance. The song won a reward on one of the weekly music shows. The song features labelmate Jun-hyung from Beast with rap, while the music video features Doo-joon from Beast.

The message in the song is much about an ended relationship where a girl is willing to let go of her feelings because the guy she really loves does not want to continue their relationship. This is just to let the man feel better in life. However, at the end of the song, the girl changes her response and says that without him, she will not be able to live. This heartbreaking song can make people cry.

In this song, G.NA looks stunning with her blonde hair and hat. Her stage presence is very strong. The dance is great and fits the beat of the song really well. Prior to her official debut, G.NA released a song called “If You Want a Lover,” or “Things I Want To Do If I Have a Lover,” featuring male singer Rain, on July 5th, 2010. The song is described as a pop ballad with urban R&B rhythm and acoustic guitar sounds.

G.NA’s third mini-album Bloom was released on May 22nd, 2012, with “2HOT” as the title track of the album. The song is produced by Kim Do-hoon and Lee Hyun Seung and involves a lot of retro beats and rhythmic melody.

The video takes place at a club that’s set on fire because of G.NA’s hotness, and there is a group of firefighters who seem to be distracted by G.NA’s sexy moves, they are completely ignoring the fires raging all around them.

G.NA stands proudly at the center of all the commotion, with her seductive vibe with topless firefighters surrounding her. The bright colors and Old Hollywood-inspired styling plays up her sexier, feminine side.

“Green Light” is a song from G.NA’s third mini-album Bloom which features Jay Park. The instrumental is R&B-tinged, has its charms, and definitely has a western feel to it. 

G.NA coos nicely to it with Jay Park providing some nice dose of rap to it. It is Western-influenced track and it makes sense considering both Jay and G.NA are from the US and Canada respectively. The track sounds very American with club beats mixed with touches of R&B, and G.NA and Jay Park sound very well with each other.

A Bitter Day

Ahead of the release of her debut solo EP, 4minute’s HyunA released a sweet ballad “A Bitter Day” featuring labelmates Junhyung and G.NA, on June 30th, 2011. The song features an impressive combination of emotional singing and rapping. “A Bitter Day” is one of the tracklists of Hyuna’s debut solo EP Bubble Pop!
