Krystal Jung’s Career
Back in 2000, Krystal and Jessica were scouted by SM Entertainment while they and their family were on vacation. Her family didn’t let Krystal join because she was too young, but Jessica joined as a trainee. In 2002, Krystal began appearing in television commercials. She first appeared in a Lotte commercial with South Korean actress Han Ga-in.
In 2006, her parents finally allowed Krystal to join S.M. Entertainment. Krystal was recruited in the “2006 SM Casting System” and she began modeling in several CF’s by age 13 before she became an f(x) member. The agency then enrolled her in dance classes and several other classes to improve her performance skills. She was trained for 3 years before debuting as a part of f(x) in 2009.
On September 1, 2009 Krystal and her group f(x) debuted with their single La Cha Ta. Krystal gained interest early on among netizens due to being the younger sister of Girls’ Generation Jessica. In 2009, she appeared in SHINee’s MV “Juliette” as the main female protagonist. In 2010, Krystal appeared on Let’s Go Dream Team 2, where she broke a high jump record that had been set on the show 10 years ago. She now holds the women’s high jump record of 1.95m. Krystal also appeared in High Kick! Season 3 as Ahn Soojung.
With Her Group “F(x)”
Krystal is a Lead Vocalist, Visual, and Face of the Korean girl group f(x). Krystal is the maknae (the youngest in Korean language) of South Korean girl group f(x). Although she is the maknae in f(x) her nature tends to be more adult than Sulli. Krystal is the member with Korean-American Nationality. However, compared to her sister Jessica, Krystal was more similar to Girls’ Generation Yoona or Yuri, member of her sister’s group.
f(x) is a South Korean girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2009. The group is composed of four members: Victoria, Amber, Luna and Krystal. Originally a five-piece group, Sulli later departed from the group in August 2015. Since their debut, f(x) has released four full-length albums, two extended plays, and one repackaged album. Their acclaimed second album, Pink Tape, was the only K-pop album on US music channel Fuse’s ’41 Best Albums of 2013′. Their latest album with a full member line-up is Red Light, released on July 7, 2014. In August 2015, it was announced that Sulli had officially left the group to focus on acting. The remaining four members continued as a group, releasing their fourth studio album, 4 Walls, on October 27, 2015.
Through f(x), Krystal become one of the most successful idols in the industry. She offered many love calls from TV series producer and also many CFs. f(x) also became one of the most popular girl groups in Korea which brought her many awards and further opportunities in musical fields.

Krystal debuted as the lead vocalist of the South Korean girl group f(x) in September 2009. But after Sulli departing in 2015, all f(x) member began to expanded their individual careers. But Krystal’s individual activity has always been tight since the beginning, for she is the most popular member in the group.
In March 2010, Krystal participated in a series of music videos under the Melody Project, playing a young student who is in love with her music teacher. She released a solo single titled “Melody” for this project. Krystal then became a host for the music show The M-Wave with Thunder from MBLAQ. In July, the singer debuted as an actress with a minor role in the long-running sitcom More Charming by the Day. She received the Newcomer Comedy Award at the 2010 MBC Entertainment Awards for the role.
Her acting career continued as she participated and won first place in SBS’s figure-skating show Kiss & Cry. She also starred in the sitcom High Kick 3, playing the role of a superficial and shallow girl who does not have any depth of feelings. All of those in 2011.
In 2013, Krystal starred in the SBS teen drama The Heirs which got her acting a lot of recognition and praise. She played the supported role of a spoiled yet kind-hearted wealthy high school student. As her character generated positive recognition among viewers, and she was voted in Best Onscreen Couple along with CN Blue’s Kang Min-hyuk at the 2013 DramaFever Awards.
In 2014, Krystal joined the ballad group S.M. the Ballad, initially formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2010. On the group’s 2nd album Breath, she sang the Japanese version of the title track “Breath” with TVXQ’s Changmin. She also sang a duet with EXO’s Chen titled “When I Was… When U Were…”. Krystal performed her duet with Chen live at the S.M. The Ballad Joint Recital on February 12. In June, Krystal, along with her sister Jessica, was featured in the reality show, Jessica & Krystal. The show took on a more close and personal side of the two sisters, addressing their public image and sisterly bond.
In 2015, Krystal got her first leading role in the SBS’s drama My Lovely Girl, alongside Rain and L (Kim Myungsoo of Infinite). She portrayed a girl who moves from the countryside to Seoul to pursue a music career and ends up meeting a fateful love in the process. Commenting on Krystal’s work attitude, Director Park Hyung-ki stated “despite taking on a difficult character, she shows her determination to pull it off through her gaze to the point you can see the sincerity in Krystal when she’s in front of the camera.” She released a solo single “All Of A Sudden” for the drama’s OST. At the Baeksang Arts Awards, Krystal won the Most Popular Actress award in the television category for her role in the drama.
In 2015, Krystal starred alongside actor Seo Jun-young in a 10-minute film entitled, “Listen To My Song” for W Korea’s 10th anniversary. Krystal was also cast in leading roles in an Chinese movie, titled Unexpected Love along with EXO’s Lay; and in the Chinese drama Graduation Season.
On February 12, 2017, it was reported that Krystal will release the collaboration single “I Don’t Wanna Love You” with Glen Check’s member June One Kim. The song was revealed for the first time on February 14 at the re-opening of a clothing store in Seoul, and then was released online at midnight KST on February 15th. In July, Krystal starred in tvN’s drama spin-off of the Korean manga Bride of the Water God. Later the year she starred in the black comedy drama Wise Prison Life, which she received good reviews for her performance. Krystal also was named ‘Woman of the Year’ by GQ Korea.
In 2018, Krystal was cast as the female lead in OCN’s crime action drama Player.
