Appearance on Mnet’s Idol School

In July 2017, Chaeyoung became a contestant of Mnet’s girl group survival show, Idol School. She was one of the most popular members in the show and made it to the final round. She finished the competition in fourth place, thus debuting as a member of Fromis_9.

Let’s take a look at some of her best moments in the show!

Her cute introduction.

Her breathtaking fan-cam performance.

A compilation of her appearances.

Before her debut, Chaeyoung was caught in a controversy about her past bullying rumors.

On June 29th, Mnet, ahead of their new variety program Idol School, revealed 13 of the female “students” to join the show. Shortly after the reveal of the 13 members, various netizens started giving accounts via an online community of one of the contestants, Chaeyoung, being a bully in school, even being forced to transfer schools for bullying and receiving school discipline for violence. Also posted were photos of Chaeyoung from her school yearbook, as well as demands for her to leave the show.

At the same time, others rose to Chaeyoung’s defense, saying that the rumors are all false. In one screen capture posted by Herald, someone asks about which elementary school Chaeyoung had been attending prior to her transfer, after which someone responded with a school name. The person who asked the question then revealed him/herself to be an elementary school mate of Chaeyoung and said that the school name the responder gave is not the right one, nor does it exist.

Mnet’s Idol School issued the following statement in regards to the rumors:

We have verified with a source at the contestant’s elementary school that it is not true that she was forced to transfer because she was bullying her classmates. She was living in a rural area, and she transferred when she moved residences. The middle school that she attended also does not have any records of her suspension from school.

We are not considering her withdrawal based on these false matters, and we would be grateful if you refrained from spreading groundless rumors such as claims that have not been confirmed.

So in the end, Chaeyoung’s name was cleared from the baseless rumors.
