In 2018, Sehun decided to be no longer accepting gifts from fans. He announced on the EXO-L fan club:

“I’m greeting EXO-L for the first time in a while. I’m writing this letter because I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I wanted to express them to you in words. Looking back, I feel like I’ve received so much love, and I’m always grateful to you for that. If I think about it, though, I think we’d all feel warmer if we shared that love not just with me but with others as well, right? I’m personally doing my best to share that love though it may not be much help. I think we’d all be happier than now if you shared that love you give to me to people who need it more. There are a lot of people around us who need more love. From now on, I’m only thinking of accepting your warm thoughts instead of gifts on my birthday. I think giving back to those in need and giving them hope will be the greatest birthday present I can get. I think this will be something that both I and all the fans reading this will be proud of. I also wrote this to express my thanks to you all. Thank you for reading this. Always be healthy and have a great time with your families. Happy Lunar New Year.”

Sehun is the fifth EXO member to announce that he has decided not to accept any more gifts from fans. His fellow members, Xiumin, wrote a similar letter to all his fans. In 2016, Chen and D.O. also made their announcements about accepting the gifts. Lay wrote a similar letter in 2015.
