In South Korea there are a lot of girl-groups and boy-groups, and many of them end up earning fans internationally as well as domestically, because of their incredible talents.

A few of them even earn themselves reputations for being among the most powerful groups in the industry. In those cases, their fans expect them to do collaborations, and look forward to their performances on the stage.

Let’s take a look at some of the best girl-group collaborations done on the stage!

A special stage performance every year is one of the most anticipated moments for each fandom, as it gives them a chance to see their favorite idols collaborating together on stage. The special stage has been a tradition ever since the beginning of the Hallyu Wave. Let’s see what some of the most anticipated collaborations involving girl-groups have been.

In July, 2012, there was a Hot Summer Special Stage aired from each of themembers of girl-groups collaborating on SBS Inkigayo. The representatives from the idol groups were F(X)’s Victoria & Krystal, After School’s UEE & Jooyeon, T-ARA’s Hwayoung & Jiyeon, and SISTAR’s Soyou & Hyorin.

The special stage was themed Special Stage SUMMER GIRLS, since the summer season is a huge comeback time for most idol groups.

It was a huge collaboration among the most popular girl-groups of the year, and their fans were blown away by the special stage showcasing their favorite idol groups.

During the same music show, there was a special stage with a girl-group collaboration from Red Velvet’s Seulgi, TWICE’s Momo, and I.O.I’s Chungha & Yoojung. All of the performers hold the position of lead dancer for their respective groups, and showed off their dancing skills when they performed INFINITE’s ‘Be Mine’.

On June 24, 2016, GFriend’s SinB, CLC’s Elkie, and TWICE’s Jihyo & Tzuyu did a special collaboration on Music Bank, as they performed together on a cover of SISTAR‘s song, ‘Loving U’, following a performance by SISTAR, who performed their songs ‘Shake It’ and ‘I Swear’.

The collaboration between idol groups in Hot Summer Special brought a lot of enthusiasm from their fans. Another stage was performed by Red Velvet’s Joy, TWICE’s Momo, CLC’s Seung-yeon and GFRIEND’s Yuju, who did a cover of SISTAR’s ‘Touch My Body’.

In 2018, the collaborations and special stages for each for the girl-groups become larger. Honey Bee Teaser

The Honey Bee teaser was released the day before the music video itself was released on Mystic Entertainment’s official YouTube account. Here are the netizen’s reaction about the Honey Bee‘s trailer:

Honey Bee Music Video

It didn’t take long to get fans excited about the collaboration project among the 3 girls from different groups, MAMAMOO’s Solar, EXID’s Hani and F(X)’s Luna, appearing as a unit to release the music video, Honey Bee.

The three girls have three distinct styles, but they’re all talented idols who amazed fans with their performance, as they brought strong vocals and a beautiful appearance.

The track, Honey Bee, is a pop-jazz number, with a catchy dance vibe. The collaboration represented their fans’ wish for the perfect combo to make an appearance with a mix of a great visual and stage presence.

Honey Bee received different responses from their fans. The idea of bringing MAMAMOO’s Solar, EXID’s Hani and F(X)’s Luna together was a great choice, since they have a great vocals and charisma, but some people believed the song didn’t represent them as well.

Instead of making a song that was suitable for the girls concept, it just felt like another variation from other top hits that the producer had made before. Honey Bee has the repeated lyrics “bee for the honey, bee bee, for the~” before it reached the girls individual parts. The song comes from a different genre than K-Pop, and the bass and saxophone are very dominant, while the higher-pitched voices of MAMAMOO’s Solar and F(X)’s Luna combined with EXID’s Hani’s deeper vocals added a sexy vibe.

The music video is basically great, with beautiful lighting. It showed off the girls’ different charisma, and was set at a bowling and billiard arena.

The 3 girls were the perfect combination for the Honey Bee collaboration, and it was a pity that they haven’t had a chance to perform the song together on stage or release any further projects. However, the fans really appreciated the idols hard work on the project and are looking forward to their schedules in the future.

That’s all the information about the collaboration between MAMAMOO’s Solar, EXID’s Hani and F(X)’s Luna that was released in January, 2017, with the new song, Honey Bee. Let’s look forward to the next girl-group collaborations, and hope they use our favorite idols, too!
