In 2012, Jung Eun-ji debuted as an actress and had her first-ever lead role, in the Korean drama series Reply 1997. Reply 1997 is a South Korean television series that aired on the cable channel tvN. It aired from July 24, 2012, to September 18, 2012. The drama shows the extreme fan culture that emerged in the 1990s when the first generation of idol groups, such as H.O.T. and SechsKies, took center stage and K-pop was just blossoming. The story shifts back and forth between the characters’ pasts, as 18-year-old high schooler students in 1997, and their present, as 33-year-olds at their high school reunion dinner in 2012.
In the drama, Jung Eun-ji plays the role of Sung Shi-won, a devoted fangirl of the boy-band H.O.T., who dreams of marrying Tony, a member of H.O.T. Shi-Won is in last place in her class and has her head above the clouds. She is also straightforward and sassy.
That Winter, The Wind Blows
“That Winter, the Wind Blows” is a South Korean romantic melodrama television series aired on SBS from February 13, 2013, to April 3, 2013, for 16 episodes. The drama starred top South Korean actor Jo In-sung and actress Song Hye-kyo.
The romantic melodrama tells a story about a gambler and con man, Oh Soo, who pretends to be the long-lost brother of a blind heiress, Oh Young. The con man and the blind woman first don’t believe in love, but as time passes, the two damaged people find the true meaning of love after getting to know each other. Oh Soo is an orphan who is left heartbroken after his first love died, while Oh Young is a lonely heiress who lives alone after her parents got divorced.
In the series, Jung Eun-ji played the role of Moon Hee-sun, the younger sister of Oh Soo’s first love, Hee-joo. Hee-sun is a quirky, tomboyish girl who really loves flowers. Though Hee-sun tries to hate Oh Soo after he leaves Hee-joo, she finds she can’t, and, instead, she helps him in his scheme.
“Cheer Up!” is a South Korean school-themed drama series starring Jung Eun-ji, Lee Won-keun, Cha Hak-yeon, Ji Soo, and Chae Soo-bin. The drama aired on KBS2 and ran from October 5, 2015, to November 10, 2015, for 12 episodes.
The drama tells the story of five students at the elite Sevit High School in Seoul. The five students try to survive in a vicious environment, where academic elitism occurs. Kang Yeon-doo is the leader of “Real King”, the outcast street dance club where a group of students gathers together because of their poor academic performance, and Kim Yeol is the leader of “Baek Ho”, an elite club composed of students from the top five percent in the school. When the two clubs are forcibly merged to create a cheerleading squad, both of the clubs put aside their differences for the benefit of their clubs. As they proceed with their unwelcome collaboration, many things happen that result in a strong and unbreakable bond.
Jung Eun-ji acted as Kang Yeon-doo, a student who places 196th out of the 200 students at her school. She only has her childhood friend, Dong-jae, and the members of her street dance club, “Real King.” She does not like the arrogant and self-centered students. She is loyal, sassy, strong-willed, brave, and is willing to put herself at risk to fight against the corruption that occurs in her school.
“Untouchable” is a drama series aired on JTBC from November 24, 2017, to January 20, 2018, for 16 episodes. The drama starred Jin Goo, Kim Sung-kyun, Jung Eun-ji, and Go Joon-hee, and tells a story of power games and the hidden secrets of the Jang family, who have ruled the city of Bukcheon for three generations.
In the action-thriller drama, Jung Eun-ji played the character of a rookie prosecutor, Seo Yi-ra. Although she has just started her career as a prosecutor, she is not afraid to compromise justice to succeed. It seems like she was on the verge of getting all the power she’d dreamed of when she became acquainted with the Jang family. She chose to defend justice after becoming involved with Jang Joon-seo and realizing the dirty side of reality.
