A story of a Man Who Died and Mysteriously Reappears 12 Years Later

Hae-sung (Yeo Jin-goo) is a high school student. He lives with his grandmother and his four younger brothers. As the oldest brother, he has a strong sense of responsibility. Even though Hae-sung has good grades in school, he chooses to go to culinary school to support his family, rather than go to college. At culinary school, he associates with five friends, including Jung-won (Lee Yeon-hee). Jung-won is almost like his girlfriend. On Hae-sung’s birthday, Jung-won prepares a surprise party for him at his home. To keep him away from home as they prepare, Jung-won asks Hae-sung to go to their school and get his wallet. There, Hae-sung walks into a surprising place. While trying to get help, Hae-sung gets hit by a car and dies.

Exactly 12 years after Hae-sung’s death, he wakes up on the roof of his school building. He finds himself in the year 2017. Hae-sung returns to his family home, but his family is no longer there. He has a physical altercation with the man who lives at his home and is eventually taken to the police station. There, he meets his friend Ho-bang (Lee Si-un), who is now a police officer.

Meanwhile, Jung-won is now 31 years old and has a huge debt. She still hasn’t forgotten Hae-sung’s death. Jung-won supports herself by working as a kitchen assistant at a restaurant. Min-joon (Ahn Jae-hyeon) is a chef and restaurant owner. He has feelings for Jung-won and tells her that, but she rejects him because of Hae-sung. One night, Jung-won finds a young man fainted in front of her house. The young man is Hae-sung.

The Cast

Hae-sung (Yeo Jin-goo)

Sung Hae-sung, a 19-year-old high school student who dies one day but returns home alive after 12 years looking exactly the same as when he was 19 years old. Hae-sung is a healing character. He is a bright and cheerful sunlight that is intended to heal the people around him. It’s amazing to see Yeo Jin-goo play such a fun character. His smile is so bright and charming. He just turns the screen on.

Jung Jung-won (Lee Yun-hee)

Jung Jung-won, a childhood friend of Sung Hae-sung who dreamed of becoming a comic artist but ended up working in a restaurant to fulfill his friend’s dream of becoming a chef. She is Hae-sung’s best friend, and they were just in the early stages of romance when he died. Hae-sung’s death was devastating for Jung-won, and it changed the course of her life. The sudden return changes everything again and leaves her with many conflicting emotions.

Cha Min-joon, played by Ahn Jae-hyun

Cha Min-joon, a grown man with a handsome face and a warm personality. He has an Italian restaurant where Jung Jung-won works. He is a very sweet man who has one-sided feelings for Jung-won for a long time. Min-joon is a charming character who is able to be a very positive support for Jung-won.

Shin Ho-bang, played by Lee Shi-un

One of Hae-sung’s and Jung-won’s friends, who has an important role in this drama. Shin Ho-bang is a police detective who helps Hae-sung find his murderer and search for evidence to free Hae-sung from being accused of being a murderer. The cute but smart and reliable Shin Ho-bang really gives an interesting color to this drama, especially every scene with the adorable Jin-joo is quite entertaining in the midst of the conflict that occurs in this drama.

Cha Tae-hoon, played by Kim Jin-woo

One of Hae-sung’s friends, who is the son of a president and has a high position in his father’s department store. Tae-sung, even though he is rich, is not arrogant and has a good heart, which also turns out to save his sister. There are a few things about Tae-sung’s character that make me a little annoyed but this is a spoiler so I will write at the end. Hae-sung’s brother in this drama has his own problems and is quite interesting to follow. Regarding the acting, all of Hae-sung’s brothers can play their roles properly and correctly.

The Soundtrack

The first OST of the drama Reunited Worlds, titled “Waiting For You,” was sung by Jo Hyun Ah Urban Zakapa. SBS did not want to disappoint fans and also released its OST video via the SBS Catch Youtube channel. With Jo Hyun Ah’s soft voice, this first OST of Reunited Worlds, the song seemed to be heard from the waiting for Jung Jung-won’s character of Sung Hae-sung. The OST World video clip also shows a finely edited piece of the drama scene. You can check it in the video below.

Following the first video, there are two more official music videos from the Reunited Worlds original soundtrack, uploaded by DOM. Like the first video, it also contains several scenes from the drama.

10 Reasons Why You Should Watch Reunited Worlds

Why you should watch Reunited Worlds? Here are 10 reasons for that.

  1. Anti-mainstream story

This drama tells the story of how big is the effect of mistakes and the difficulty of truth is upheld and how difficult a person’s life is filled with guilt. Although there are some disadvantages, this drama is interesting to watch and followed by a continuation of the story, even though you have to be strong, accept the shortcomings, but in the plot, this conflict is worth watching.

2. The chemistry between the main characters

The main relationship between Hae-sung and Jung-won is very adorable. I like their comfort with each other. I also like how they make friends feel comfortable with each other before moving on to romance. And you can see how much they care for each other. They had some difficult problems to solve even though Jung-won felt guilty about Hae-sung’s death and he wanted her to be happy.

3. Mystery in the plot

There is always a mystery in a place with some big secrets between the characters. Melodrama usually appears in the second half when these secrets start to come out and the characters have to deal with that fall. Reunited Worlds doesn’t have as many as other dramas, but this drama definitely unravels nicely and gives us a beautiful story.

4. Good soundtrack

There is also a fantastic soundtrack for all aspects of drama with fun, romantic and sad tracks. Don’t forget their original songs as discussed above have scenes that match the drama and describe the character’s feelings in the drama.

5. The supporting characters are also important

This drama is filled with touching moments between characters and has many feelings. It shapes the world of characters that I love and cannot be rooted. Often in supporting characters, the drama feels like a filler. In Reunited Worlds, they feel like part of the story.

6. Good cinematography

Unlike some other Korean dramas, Reunited Worlds shows a variety of unusual cinematography. The cinematography is very good and beautiful.

7. The extraordinary relationship between the characters

I could see an extraordinary relationship in this drama. There are many extraordinary relationships to explore. From friends to family to lovers. Relationships that existed from the start and others that developed throughout the drama. This is a beautiful world of characters to enjoy.

8. The leading roles

Yeo Jin-goo is the life of Reunited Worlds. He can make Hae-sung’s character become so complicated with his expressions. The sweetness of a high school teen who is in love. Playing the firstborn sibling responsible for his younger siblings. Also, the sadness of a man who has died and must see his family’s life in the future. And meet his first love again after all this time, of course.

9. The message of the drama

After watching this drama, the moral message of this drama is the meaning of sincerity and truth, but the truth will be revealed even though we almost forget it.

10. The execution of the plot

I like the style of speaking RW and combining fantasy stories into sweet melodrama. The forward and backward flow is not confusing at all, but instead, adds to its own enjoyment while watching it.

So, these are the 10 reasons why you should watch Reunited Worlds. Even though there are some minus points, like the ending of the story that is too easy to guess, but overall this drama is enjoyable to watch.

Now, here are some scenes of this drama:

As I mentioned before, here is one example of the good cinematography of this drama. Green hills, rice fields on the left and right as the background, simple but romantic.

Hae-sung’s family members. Hae-sung is the eldest of five siblings and has a family that love each other.

One scene from the final episode. Ho-bang suggested that they take a picture together, and they all struggled to look happy for Hae-sung. The picture turned out to be good, looking very similar to the one they all took a long time ago, while at school.
