The drama tells us about a character named Seo Jin-woo who has a special condition called hyperthymesia which allows him to remember every single memory vividly in detail. On the other hand, his father, Seo Jae-hyuk, suffered from an Alzheimer’s disease that caused him to lose his memories day by day. This becomes a problem when one day, Seo Jae-hyuk was accused and wrongfully convicted of murder. This case was being manipulated by the true criminal who happened to be very powerful.

In addition, Jin-woo’s father condition was getting worst and he himself began to doubt his memory and conscience, thus it is difficult to fight against the corrupted court system that is controlled by money and power. Jin-woo vows to prove that his father is innocent no matter what. However, the road to prove his father’s innocence was not an easy sail, as he tried to put the real criminal behind bars, bribery, corruption, and betrayals are coming through his way.

The Cast

Yoo Seung-ho as Seo Jin-woo

He was gifted with a special ability to remember everything in perfect detail called hyperthymesia. He uses this as his weapon to fight against those who incriminated his father of murder. This ability makes him the youngest lawyer in South Korea. When he was a child, his family got into a car accident which caused the death of his mother and brother

Park Sung-woong as Park Dong-ho

A very well-known lawyer whose success rate is almost 100%. Unfortunately, he only works with rich and powerful clients disregarding they are innocent or at fault. He’s the one who was in charge with Jin-woo’s case although he was reluctant at first knowing that Jin-woo can’t really afford his service. Because Jin-woo reminds him of his young self, he accepted the case. However, on the trial, he lost on purpose due to the threat from Il-ho company, which after the case he was signed under their legal team. As the story progress, Dong-ho realized that the car accident his dad caused years ago was the same accident that Jin-woo’s family got into.

Park Min-Young as Lee In-ah

She’s one of the few that believes in Jin-woo’s father innocence. She supports Jin-woo unconditionally through hard times. She used to be poor and had done pizza delivery to support her parents financially, which is why she can relate with Jin-woo on many layers. Later on, she managed to become a prosecutor.

Nam Goong-min as Nam Gyu-man

The antagonist of the story. He’s the man behind Jin-woo’s father murder case. The drama portrays him as someone who is heartless and vicious. In fact, there is a separate legal team from his company that supposed to cover his bad deeds. Despite his behavior, he really fears his father.

Jung Hye-sung as Nam Yeo-kyung

Nam Gyu-man sister. She’s adored and spoiled by his father. She lived in a bubble of wealthy people, thus she’s very intrigued by Jin-woo’s special skill. She’s also Lee In-ah’s colleague and classmate.

3 Reasons Why You Should Watch Remember

1. The Outstanding Performances of the Actors and Actresses

First of all, Yoo Seung-Ho and Park Min-Young had shown very great chemistry together. They portrayed the typical friend to lover cliche in a not so boring way. Secondly, Park Sung Woong was like the trump card of this drama with his remarkable accent and expressive style as lawyer Park Dong Ho. He did a brilliant job of acting such a cocky and self-assured character yet, Dong Ho’s vulnerability is still apparent enough at certain moments.

Last but not least, from my personal opinion, the most memorable performance of this drama was without a doubt from Nam Goong-min as the rich psychotic antagonist, Nam Gyu Man. He’s able to show a huge range of emotion through his character. The audience will hate him during the beginning of the drama, but once everything is revealed, you can’t help but pity him. His voice, his facial expressions, everything really adds up to his character. I’m really looking forward to his future works!

2. The Uncommon Theme and the Universal Message

Although it is common to have politics, laws, and all that jazz as a theme for a drama, I found Remember to be different because it’s very close to reality. In addition, there’s a hint of a psychological theme because they explored the realm of mental illnesses with Jin-woo’s father who suffered from Alzheimer, as well as Jin-woo himself with his hyperthymesia. Overall, I really enjoyed how these two worlds collide. One more thing to add, just like I’ve mentioned earlier, Remember is quite unique as it focused on the uglier, darker, and corrupt side of the law. And in many ways, the drama was able to showcase what really happened in real life in and out of court related to jurisdiction, especially about lawyers, prosecutors, judges and police officers, how they aren’t always heroes to save the day, how power relation really matters despite laws already being strong as it is.

In fact, these laws were used as a shield by the powerful people to hide their crimes. However, from this point of view, it can give harm to the real innocent people who became the scapegoat of the people with power. As unfair as that sounds, I believe that this wasn’t made out of thin air, but it indeed exists in the real world. We never really know who the good or bad guy is even if the evidence is already right in front of us unless we see it from an omniscient point of view, which only possessed by God. Because in this cruel world, facts can always overcome the truths. The thing is, facts are something that can be manipulated and fabricated. Thus, this drama can really make oneself re-think about the dichotomy of good and bad, wrong and right, and also about justice in general

3. The Trivia

Who said you can’t learn anything from watching dramas? You actually can! In fact, you can learn from any other entertainment platform such as novels, songs, etc. While watching this drama, you will learn so much about the legal world as well as a little bit of psychology. Before watching this drama, I didn’t even know there is a term for someone who has a photographic memory, but now I know! So, absorb as much trivia information as you can while you’re watching Remember: War of Son!
