Defconn was born on January 6, 1977. His real name is Yoo Dae-Joon. Defconn was born in Jeonju, and enrolled in Jeonju University majoring Christian Studies. He is a South Korean rapper, but is better known as TV personality and comedian.

Early Career and Controversy


He debuted in 1998 with the single “Kapital G” under the management of DI Corporation. In 2004, he received “Best Hip-hop Album” from the Korean Music Awards. One of his songs started anti-american controversy among South Koreans. It was related to the infamous Yangju Highway Incident, where two 13 year-old middle school student lost their lives to an American military tank.

Co-hosting MBC “Weekly Idol” and JTBC “Idol Room” with Hyeong-don


In 2011, he started hosting the MBC Every 1 show Weekly Idol alongside comedian Jeong Hyeong-don. Weekly Idol is one of the longest-running variety shows, currently on its third season. Weekly Idol invites idol groups as guests and challenges them with games which vary between episodes. The idol group Infinite was the first to be a guest and has been the most frequent guests on the show. Due to health issues, Jeong Hyeong-don stepped down as co-host and Defconn was then accompanied by various Idol stars. Both Defconn and Jeong Hyeong-don resigned from the show on February 22, 2018, marking the end of the first season of Weekly Idol. some of the best moments from Weekly Idol included IU getting hit by rubber hammer and laughing hysterically, and also BigBang members trying hard to show their aegyo to win a notebook computer. After leaving Weekly Idol, Defconn and Jeong Hyeong-don moved to a similar themed TV program titled Idol Room, aired by JTBC every Tuesday. Idol Room started on May 12, 2018, and continues to this day. On a weekly basis, Idol Room receives higher viewer’s rating than Weekly Idol.

KBS “2 Days 1 Night” Participation


On December 1, 2013, Defconn joined the third season of the show Two Days One Night (2D1N) with Kim Joo-hyuk, Kim Joon-ho, and Jung Joon-Young. Defconn said it was his dream to be part of 2D1N. In the show, 1D2N cast members visited places throughout South Korea. While traveling, they were given certain missions to collect rewards or avoid punishments. The show has achieved high viewer ratings since Season 1. The episode where Park Bo Gum was invited as guest turned out to be one of the highest-rated episodes. Park Bo Gum, with his smile and dorky dancing act captivated viewers. Viewers also got to see him taking off his shirt. Defconn received KBS Entertainment Awards in 2014 and 2018 in the category “Excellence Award in A variety Show”. Due to a recent scandal involving several cast members, 2D1N received criticism regarding members’ moral problems, prompting the show to be terminated.
