Shin Won-ho is a South Korean singer, actor and the leader of the Asian pop group Cross Gene. He is best known for his role in the South Korean drama Legend of the Blue Sea as Tae-oh. Shin Won-ho debuted as a CF model alongside G-Dragon in 2011 for Beanpole. He made his acting debut with the 2011 Korean drama Bachelor’s Vegetable Store.

On June 8th, 2012, he debuted as a singer for the band Cross Gene. Based in South Korea, the band consists of six members: three members from South Korea, two members from China and one member from Japan. Apart from being a singer, Shin is still active as an actor as well.

Shin Won-ho in Legend of the Blue Sea

With the South Korean drama series Legend of the Blue Sea, he had his breakthrough role. Legend of the Blue Sea is a 2016-2017 South Korean television series starring Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho. The drama, inspired by a classic Joseon legend from Korea’s first collection of unofficial historical tales, is about a fisherman who captures and releases a mermaid, and tells the love story of a con-artist and a mermaid who travels across the ocean to find him. It aired on SBS every Wednesday and Thursday at 22:00 (KST) starting from November 16th, 2016 to January 25th, 2017.

The television series centers on the love story between Heo Joon-jae (Lee Min-ho), the son of a rich businessman who becomes a clever con-man after his parents’ divorce, and a mermaid named Shim Cheong (Jun Ji-hyun). The story is focused on the rebirth, fate, and unrequited love, and the incarnations of their Joseon era life, town head Kim Dam-ryeong and the mermaid Se-hwa.

In the drama Legend of The Blue Sea, Shin Won-ho plays the role of Tae-oh, a genius hacker and a con-man together with Heo Joon-jae and Nam-doo. 

Tae-oh is a quiet person who likes to play computer games. He initially has a secret crush on Shim Cheong, but ends up falling for Shi-ah. He is captivated by the mermaid’s charm and even secretly takes pictures of her.

However, Tae-oh, ends up falling for a woman named Cha Si-ah, who is in love with Heo Joon Jae for a long time. It all starts when Tae-oh confesses that he admires Cha Si-ah. But actually, that is only to cover up the scam operation that their group has made in the house of Cha Si-ah’s brother.

Since then, Cha Si-ah sympathizes with the feelings that Tae-Oh has for her. Though it’s really not true and just an act for Tae-Oh. But later on, Cha Si-ah discovers everything, that he is not in love with her but with Sim Chung, the mermaid.

In the end, he falls for Cha Si-ah and he even kisses her. After successfully playing a role in the drama Legend of the Blue Sea, he managed to attract the attention of the audience.

He is a member of the multinational boy group Cross Gene, however, Shin Won-ho has also been actively promoting as a solo artist.


Shin Won-ho released his first solo track titled “Serenade” on November 27th, 2018.

“Serenade” was originally released on a fans-only album, titled W, in honor of Shin’s birthday celebration event in Japan. However, it has now been released digitally across Korean music portals under his full name Shin Won-ho, making it the singer’s first official solo release.


Cross Gene released their 2019 Single Relay Project. For the third release, it was Shin Won-ho‘s turn who released his song called “Time.” On March 26th, 2019, Shin released the music video for the song “Time.” He produced the song himself and it is actually a remastered version of the same track that was included on his solo album W which was released in 2018.

The song tells the story of a man who is remembering his lost love and hoping that they can remember each other as time goes by. It is a sweet and gentle song which seems to fit with Shin‘s style. The music video matches the concept of the song perfectly. It is thoughtful and full of memories of the relationship.
