You must be wondering why Mei Qi and the other Chinese members were absent from a lot of Cosmic Girls’ group activity. The real answer is that Mei Qi and Xuan Yi participated in Produce 101 Season 1 China.

In March 2018, Mei Qi was introduced to be one of the participants in Produce 101 Season 1 China along with Xuan Yi, her fellow Cosmic Girls member.

Even when they compete against each other, Mei Qi and Xuan Yi still remain good friends and support each other.

Cheng Xiao was supporting them, too. She even paid a visit to the girls.

Here are some of the performances of Mei Qi in Produce 101 Season 1 China!

Mei Qi finished in first place at the end of the competition.

After all the hard work, it really paid off knowing that Mei Qi got first place. Congrats, Mei Qi!

With all the tears running down her cheeks, it also meant she will be in the lineup of the girl group that will debut under the Produce 101 show.

Being the first rank of Produce 101 Season 1 China means that Mei Qi was really popular in China. Even after the survival show was over, Mei Qi got a lot of individual projects in China.

In 2018, Mei Qi started her acting debut in a Chinese movie called Marna portraying Yi Tao.

Offers to be cast in movies also started coming at her. She only portrayed the supporting role in Marna, but for the movies that she starred in in 2019, Mei Qi portrayed the second lead and even main lead roles.

She starred in Autumn in My Heart, Jade Dynasty, and Step Up China: Year of the Dance.

In 2019, Mei Qi was also appointed as one of the mentors in The Coming One program in China. She used to be a participant in shows, but now she has become a mentor. Look at how she has grown up!

All the solo activities from Mei Qi in China prevent her from being able to have activities in Korea. No wonder Cosmic Girls is often missing the Chinese members in some of their comeback promotions or even group activities.

Whether it’s in China or Korea, let’s hope that Mei Qi will be more successful than she already is right now!

Mei Qi’s Debut and Re-Debut with Rocket Girls

After being chosen as the first rank of Produce 101 Season 1 China, Mei Qi was included in the lineup of the girl group that debuted under Produce 101 China just like I.O.I, WANNA ONE, IZ*ONE, and X1.

As for Mei Qi and the other girls who got the top 11 ranks, they debuted as a Chinese girl group called Rocket Girls 101.

Besides Mei Qi, there was also Xuan Yi from Cosmic Girls who got the 2nd rank. The rest of the members were Yang Chaoyue, Duan Aojuan, Yamy or Guo Ying, Lai Meiyun or Sunny Lai, Zhang Zining or Winnie Zhang, Sunnee or Yang Yunqing, Li Ziting or Mimi Li, Fu Jing or Jinna Fu, and Xu Mengjie.

The girl group has several singles such as “Rocket Girls,” “Collide,” “Light,” “Sailor Moon,” “Born to Win,” “Wind,” and “Hard Candy.” They also released a lot of promotional singles and soundtracks for dramas.

However, there was some drama over the collision of the promotion schedule between Rocket Girls and Cosmic Girls that made Yuehua Entertainment decide to withdraw Mei Qi and Xuan Yi from the group.

But then, in August 2018, Yuehua Entertainment announced that both Mei Qi and Xuan Yi will continue to participate in Rocket Girls’ promotions. That meant the girls had to be absent from Cosmic Girls’ promotion.

Unfortunately, the contract for Rocket Girls was only for 2 years. The girl group disbanded after releasing the last EP with a song called “Meeting Goodbye.”
