New Generation Female Solo Artist Chungha: Profile, IOI, Solo Debut, and More

Solo Debut

After the official disbandment of I.O.I at the end of January, 2017, Chungha chose to start her solo career. On March 15, 2017, it was announced by M&H Entertainment that she would be debuted as a solo singer that April. Although the other former member of I.O.I were to debut as group members (some already had been debuted in a group), it didn’t stop Chungha from spreading her wings to be a soloist. She released a pre-debut single track, Week, on M&H’s official YouTube channel. She was officially debuted on June 7, 2017, followed by releasing athe album Hands on Me, with the title track Why Don’t You Know, featuring Nucksal.

On the same day, she made her first showcase to promote her first solo album. She performed her title track, Why Don’t You Know.

She made her debut stage at Mnet M!Countdown on June 8, 2017, with Why Don’t You Know again. Her debut had been highly anticipated after she became popular through I.O.I before. The album peaked at #8 on the Gaon Album Chart, marking a great start for her solo career.

Through an interview with The Korea Herald, Chungha shared that she was worried about debuting so soon after the disbandment of I.O.I, but she also stated that going solo was the fastest way of showing her true self. “I think my forte as a solo artist is my powerful performance, which I tried to showcase through the album,” she added.

Dance and Song Cover Compilation

Chungha’s dancing skill was in evidence again, on the show Hit The Stage on episodes #3 and #10. The show was known for the best idol dancers teaming up with professional dancers to compete with each other. The show also had a theme for each episode.

Not only that, Chungha usually dances free style in many occasions. Let’s check the out!

Even after her solo debut, the girl shows off her dancing skill doing dance covers of songs like DJ Snake’s Taki Taki, Ariana Grande’s God Is A Woman and 7 Rings, Taemin’s Move, and many more.

Even though she’s been especially well-known for her dancing, she’s also a talented vocalist. She’s made many appearances on KBS’s Immortal Songs. The show features idol singers who sing songs of the episode’s singer or theme. Through this show, Chungha showed off her singing skill.
