On March 15, 2017, it was announced by M&H Entertainment that she would be debuted as a solo singer that April. Although the other former member of I.O.I were to debut as group members (some already had been debuted in a group), it didn’t stop Chungha from spreading her wings to be a soloist. She released a pre-debut single track, Week, on M&H’s official YouTube channel. She was officially debuted on June 7, 2017, followed by releasing athe album Hands on Me, with the title track Why Don’t You Know, featuring Nucksal.

She made her debut stage at Mnet M!Countdown on June 8, 2017, with Why Don’t You Know again. Her debut had been highly anticipated after she became popular through I.O.I before. The album peaked at #8 on the Gaon Album Chart, marking a great start for her solo career.
Through an interview with The Korea Herald, Chungha shared that she was worried about debuting so soon after the disbandment of I.O.I, but she also stated that going solo was the fastest way of showing her true self. “I think my forte as a solo artist is my powerful performance, which I tried to showcase through the album,” she added.
