Cha Seung-won as a Popular Model
As explained at the beginning of this article, Cha Seung-won began his professional career as an in-demand fashion model in 1988. Soon after he started his modeling career, Cha Seung-won received remarkable results whenever he was nominated in fashion-related award ceremonies, such as Model of the Year on Korean Fashion Photographers Association in 1995, Grand Prize (Daesang) in Fashion on Model Center’s Adieu Fashion Festival in 1997, Fashion Icon Award on Korea Fashion & Design Awards in 2007, and Style Icon of the Year on 4th Style Icon Awards in 2010.
Even though currently he is mostly known as an actor, Cha Seung-won is still frequently seen at fashion events. One such occasion is when he was walking on the runway for the show of his friend and designer Song Zio entitled SONGZIO SHOW on 2017 S/S HERA Seoul Fashion Week on October 19, 2016. Not only working part-time as a runway model, Cha Seung-won is also appointed as a model for popular brands. In 2015, Cha Seung-won was chosen to represent Lotte Duty Free alongside actor Park Hae-jin. Both of them joined the line-up of brand representatives with the likes of Lee Min-ho, Park Shin-hye, Kim So-hyun, 2PM, Super Junior, and EXO. One year later, in 2016, Cha Seung-won was appointed as the exclusive model for AB&I, a financial consulting firm. The representative of AB&I stated that the reason they choose Cha Seung-won as the company’s model is that he has a gentle yet easygoing manner which suits the company’s commercial mindset about customer-oriented consulting.
Cha Seung-won on Running Man
It is not a secret that Running Man is the most popular Korean variety show overseas. Besides doing many kinds of games, Running Man often invites celebrity guests, including the star of our article Cha Seung-won. On August 23, 2016, Cha Seung-won was seen filming for SBS’s Running Man in Yeouido Park and around the Mangwon neighborhood in Seoul. It turned out that Cha Seung-won was the sole guest for the 315th episode of Running Man which aired in early September 2016.
Cha Seung-won’s appearance on Running Man also marked his reunion with South Korea’s National MC Yoo Jae-suk after both of them previously showed their solid teamwork on MBC’s Infinite Challenge in 2014. At that time, Cha Seung-won and Yoo Jae-suk worked together in a coal mine of Gangwon province in 2014 and had a coal briquette stacking showdown on Reckless Challenge in 2005. During this episode of Running Man, Cha Seung-won briefly showed his frustration towards the only female cast of Running Man Song Ji-hyo because she won over Cha Seung-won’s entire team which consisted of Yoo Jae-suk, Lee Kwang-soo, Haha, and Cha Seung-won in the rock-paper-scissors game for the sake of getting free jokbal (pig trotter). He admitted Song Ji-hyo’s status as the ace of Running Man and said that he would buy jokbal for himself later after finishing the recording of the show. Lol, what a funny man!
Cha Seung-won on Hwayugi: A Korean Odyssey
Cha Seung-won came back to act on the small screen in 2017 for Hwayugi, otherwise known as A Korean Odyssey. In this drama, Cha Seung-won is reunited with his co-star from You’re All Surrounded, actor Lee Seung-gi, who had just finished his army enlistment. As for Cha Seung-won’s role as the bull demon king named Woo Ma-wang, he became the key role between the lead roles Son Oh-gong (acted by Lee Seung-gi) and Jin Sun-mi (acted by Oh Yeon-seo) because he is the secret cupid of the immortal-mortal couple. Even though Woo Ma-wang is against the relationship between Son Oh-gong and Jin Sun-mi, he indirectly helped the pair get closer day by day. Regarding Cha Seung-won’s work, the production staff of Hwayugi stated that they are proud and could not be happier with the decision to cast Cha Seung-won as the bull demon king as he knows how to deliver the right kind of gesture, whether it be comical or charismatic. Wow, Cha Seung-won is indeed one talented man, be it as a model or as an actor!
