BTS’s Wings Theory: What is the Meaning of the Logo?

BTS’ Wings Album

In their three years, BTS shied away from full-fledged solo or unit releases (prevalent among K-pop acts), instead, they allowed leader RM and rapper Suga to drop mixtapes as an unhampered way of expressing themselves. Importantly, these recordings did not allow the bigger musical focus to be removed from the main BTS group, and only increased the overall thirst for seeing the seven boys back together in action.

They did something different with the Wings album. For each member, there are seven solo songs this time, each separately aligning with their own personal taste and life perspective.

Six of the seven members of BTS contribute to their solo music by composing and/or producing credits. Rap Monster’s melancholic Reflection finds the MC displaying a more vocal delivery, and Suga’s First Love plays more like a monologue than an album song — both highlighting new sides of the members, past their mixtapes. Meanwhile, the quirky hip-hop cut by J-Hope, MAMA, completely captures his animated delivery and style on stage.

We see V trying a neo-soul-jazz sound on the smoky Stigma elsewhere, and underrated Jin serves up an unexpected ballad in Awake. It’s a song that might have been reserved for the powerhouse belters of the group, but, instead, main vocalist Jimin delivers Lie, which seems to have become a fan favorite as it raced up the iTunes chart after release. Jimin lets his vocal skills explode over the spectacular production, which shifts from cinematic violins to a booming pop beat.

What is your favorite song in the Wings album?

Intro: Boy Meets Evil

BTS released their comeback trailer for the Wings era with video of J-Hope performing dance and rap in Boys Meet Evil. The comeback trailer was released on September 25th, 2016.

The trailer begins with RM speaking in his sexy, profound voice, describing how he shook hands with the devil (a.k.a. Demian). After that, we’ve got J-Hope dancing to the point that it doesn’t even make him look real! It’s so good! J-Hope really proved he’s an amazing dancer as well rapper, and it made him a complete bias wrecker!

Blood Sweat & Tears

The group held a press conference on October 10, 2016, to release their album. Asked about their new idea and meaning, leader RM explained, “The harder you are tempted to resist, the more you think about it and waver. That uncertainty is part of the growing process. Blood Sweat & Tears is a song that shows how you think, choose, and grow.

Such a cool concept, don’t you think? That’s what you expect from BTS!
